A Chief of Staff Mixer Turns Compensation Into a Peer Conversation

Chiefs of staff are expected to understand the entire business, absorb ambiguity, and extend the judgment of a founder or executive. Their own compensation, however, is often discussed with far less clarity.

A Chief of Staff Mixer on Compensation brings that conversation into the open on August 6 in Tribeca. Hosted by David Nebinski and powered by Basic Capital, the gathering is built for New York chiefs of staff who want better context on how the role is valued.

Why Compensation Is the Right Topic

The chief of staff title can describe radically different jobs. One person may run strategic projects. Another may own operations, recruiting, fundraising preparation, or the systems around a CEO. Comparing titles alone rarely produces a useful benchmark.

Peer discussion can surface the details that salary surveys miss: company stage, decision authority, equity, scope, proximity to revenue, and how the role changes over time.

A Small-Room Format

The evening begins with arrival and mingling, followed by two short conversations about compensation and a small-group discussion. The format gives attendees room to compare notes rather than simply listen to a panel.

Basic Capital is supporting the event and is also hiring for a chief of staff role, adding a live employer perspective to the conversation.

Event Details

The mixer takes place Thursday, August 6, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM EDT in Tribeca. The exact address is shared with approved guests. Capacity is limited, and registration is subject to host approval. Request to join on the official event page.
