VÆRIDION Raises $33.7M Series A2 for Electric Microliner

A factory can be planned while the aircraft it will assemble is still heading toward its first conforming prototype. For VÆRIDION, the distance between those two jobs explains the structure of a financing announcement that combines closed equity with a much larger, conditional industrial grant.

The Munich electric-aircraft manufacturer closed a €30M Series A2 on November 5, 2026, led by SHIFT Invest and Invest-NL. That is approximately $33.7M at the announcement-day exchange rate. Separately, the European Commission selected VÆRIDION's CAROLUS project for a €94.5M Innovation Fund grant, approximately $106.1M, to support final assembly at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport. The grant remains subject to an agreement expected in 2027.

The equity supports the first conforming version of the nine-passenger Microliner and integrated battery and propulsion testing. The proposed grant concerns the capacity to manufacture aircraft afterward, bringing industrial planning into a development program whose commercial service target remains 2030.

What VÆRIDION's Series A2 actually finances

Invest-NL says it is investing €5M, approximately $5.6M, and co-leading the round with SHIFT Invest. World Fund, Project A and Vsquared Ventures participated, alongside investor Alexander Rittweger and others. Invest-NL describes the capital requirements and risks of aircraft development as part of its reason for investing, giving the round an explicit industrial-policy dimension alongside venture backing.

VÆRIDION says approximately €60M has been raised to date, including this equity round and earlier public funding. That figure should remain separate from the prospective CAROLUS grant. Its December 2024 Series A brought €14M led by World Fund, an earlier step toward the same aircraft program. Valuation and ownership terms for the latest financing were not disclosed.

All dollar equivalents here use the November 5 ECB reference rate published by Austria's central bank, $1.1224 per euro. The transactions were announced in euros; translating them does not change the condition attached to the larger grant. The company has closed the equity round while the grant agreement is still ahead.

An aircraft built around the regional operator

VÆRIDION's Microliner design targets nine passengers and 400km of range plus commercial instrument-flight reserves. Wing-integrated modular batteries and independent electric drives turning one propeller are intended to combine efficiency with redundancy. These are the manufacturer's design specifications and engineering choices, with certified commercial performance still to be established.

For a regional operator, that configuration leads directly into ordinary working decisions: how many seats can be filled, how long the aircraft occupies the stand, and whether the next departure fits the day's schedule. VÆRIDION lists a typical charging target below 40 minutes and peak charging power up to 800kW. Airports and operators would have to incorporate those demands into their ground operations as the aircraft moves toward service.

The appeal of small electric aircraft sits inside that practical assignment. McKinsey's 2023 regional-air-mobility analysis described declining small-aircraft service alongside the potential to use existing regional airports, while identifying technology, energy infrastructure and customer experience as necessary enablers. An available runway is a starting point for a route; the operator still needs an aircraft and a service pattern that passengers can use repeatedly.

The engineering work behind the factory plan

CEO Ivor van Dartel founded VÆRIDION in 2021 with Dr. Sebastian Seemann, who has since left the company. Current CTO Markus Kochs-Kämper leads the engineering organization, while Otto Verhoeff is CBO. The current leadership team connects aircraft development, certification preparation and commercial relationships across a business headquartered in Munich with engineering activity in Delft.

In July, VÆRIDION announced completion of its second EASA pre-application contract with GKN Aerospace. The work addressed high-voltage energy storage, electrical wiring and power distribution. The announcement expressly left testing, validation and formal compliance demonstration for subsequent certification phases, so the milestone represents progress in the certification approach rather than an aircraft type certificate.

The next integration work includes a ground-test rig known as the copper bird, bringing battery packs and propulsion together before flight testing. VÆRIDION already has a production and test facility at Oberpfaffenhofen, opened in March 2026. CAROLUS addresses a further assembly and production ramp-up, giving the airport a role in both current development and planned industrial scale.

Customer commitments meet a manufacturing calendar

ASL Group is VÆRIDION's launch customer, and the manufacturer reports commitments for more than 130 aircraft. Its June commercial update described more than 100 new letters of intent, spanning passenger and cargo applications. Those disclosures give prospective demand a shape without establishing that every commitment is a binding sale or that the corresponding revenue has been earned.

The customers also have decisions to prepare for before delivery. Aircraft configuration, maintenance arrangements, airport charging and route planning belong to the operator's business as much as to the manufacturer's pitch. Bringing those parties into development can make the eventual service proposition more specific, although neither a commitment nor a financing announcement settles the operating economics.

VÆRIDION's funding sits alongside other attempts to finance the machinery of lower-emission transport. DevCuration's coverage of Circularity Fuels' dairy-biogas jet-fuel program follows a different aviation pathway, while Harbinger's industrial electrification expansion examines the work of taking power systems into manufacturing. The useful connection is the industrial obligation behind the capital: equipment, production and customers have to develop together.

At VÆRIDION, the newly financed conforming aircraft will give that coordination a physical focus. As Ivor van Dartel's team integrates the systems at Oberpfaffenhofen, the assembly plan has to keep developing around the aircraft the operators intend to put to work, with the grant agreement, certification program and production preparation each carrying its own calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between VÆRIDION’s equity round and the CAROLUS grant?

VÆRIDION closed €30M in Series A2 equity for its first conforming Microliner and integrated battery/propulsion testing. The separate €94.5M EU Innovation Fund grant selection supports assembly capacity and remains subject to an agreement expected in 2027.

What would the Microliner offer regional aircraft operators?

The design targets nine passengers and 400km of range plus commercial instrument-flight reserves, using battery-electric propulsion. Operators would still need to integrate charging, maintenance and route schedules; these design targets are not established commercial operating results.

Does completion of an EASA pre-application contract mean the aircraft is certified?

No. The July 2026 announcement describes alignment on the certification approach for high-voltage systems, with subsequent testing, validation and formal compliance work still required.

How firm is VÆRIDION’s reported aircraft demand?

The manufacturer reports commitments for more than 130 aircraft and identifies ASL Group as launch customer. Earlier disclosures include letters of intent, so the total should not be treated as entirely binding sales or realized revenue.

How does the new assembly plan relate to Oberpfaffenhofen’s existing facility?

VÆRIDION opened a production and test facility at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport in March 2026. The conditional CAROLUS grant concerns establishment and ramp-up of final assembly capacity, a further industrial stage alongside the current aircraft development work.
