RadianX Raises $9M for Perovskite Solar Manufacturing

Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing is helping give RadianX a place to make its solar modules in volume. The manufacturing partner's dedicated line sits alongside venture backing in a $9M financing announcement, putting the equipment needed to supply device makers inside the company's next stage of development.

RadianX, the Redwood City, California company formerly called California Perovskite Technology, announced the combined venture and project financing on November 5, 2026. SOSV and Twynam co-led the Seed round. The company develops perovskite photovoltaics for sensors, wearables and other connected products, seeking to make the light around a device useful to its power supply.

That manufacturing relationship matters to a customer considering a new material. A device maker needs a component it can qualify, design around and keep ordering, with electronics and protective packaging suited to the application. RadianX's financing brings more of that supply relationship into focus as its founders work to turn ambient-light harvesting into a practical product decision.

How RadianX's Financing Supports Production

The $9M total combines different kinds of capital. SOSV's announcement identifies the venture syndicate and the production partnership separately, while TechCrunch reports a $5M Seed round and $4M in non-dilutive financing from PUT. The combined figure should therefore be read as venture and project financing rather than the size of an equity Seed alone.

Joining SOSV and Twynam are One Small Planet, Sahsen Ventures, Avila VC, California Innovation Fund, quantumEDGE, Riceberg Ventures and Alumni Ventures. RadianX's announcement describes PUT, short for Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing, as a publicly listed precision-components manufacturer. The company has not provided a valuation or detailed investment terms in the reviewed primary announcements.

RadianX says it is building its first automated 6MW perovskite production line. That figure describes planned capacity, with no commissioning date established in the announcement. Co-founder and CEO Vivian Qu presents the line as a manufacturing approach that could be reproduced at larger scale in other locations.

For the founders, the partnership creates a way to put manufacturing expertise beside the material technology. For a prospective buyer, it gives the supply discussion a physical destination: a dedicated line intended to produce the modules its engineering team is evaluating. Volume production still carries work around process consistency, delivery and customer qualification that an announced capacity figure cannot settle by itself.

What Device Makers Can Build With Perovskite

Perovskites are a family of materials used to absorb light and generate electricity. The U.S. Department of Energy's explanation describes the very thin active layers used in perovskite solar cells and the potential for lower-temperature, integrated manufacturing. It also identifies durability, efficiency at scale, manufacturability and technology validation as continuing commercial challenges for the category.

RadianX focuses that materials work on the power needs of individual products. Its current product range includes rigid AlphaGlass modules and semitransparent AlphaVis surfaces, both listed as available. AlphaFlex, the flexible-film format intended for curved applications, remains in development. Treating all 3 formats as shipping products would move the roadmap ahead of the company's own description.

The company's technology architecture combines the absorber, encapsulation, module form and power-management electronics. RadianX says its chemistry can be tuned for different light conditions, including indoor illumination. The useful engineering question is how much energy a particular surface can collect in the conditions where its device spends its life.

That question reaches beyond the panel's efficiency rating. A sensor transmitting intermittently, a wearable moving between environments and a device left in darkness have different energy demands. Surface area, illumination, storage and operating schedule all enter the design. RadianX's proposition gives engineers another power source to work with, and the right application determines whether it supplements a battery or makes routine replacement unnecessary.

Qualification Brings the Material Into Purchasing

RadianX says AlphaGlass has received TÜV certification across all 3 categories of IEC TS 63163, the consumer-product photovoltaic specification. Its September qualification update also reports lead-release testing under REACH and RoHS compliance. These are company-reported qualification statements; the complete reports are listed as forthcoming on its technical site.

That distinction gives purchasing and engineering teams a specific next conversation. They can ask which module configuration was tested, which operating environment the qualification covers and what documentation supports their own product requirements. The company's published assertions establish what to investigate, while the buyer remains responsible for matching that evidence to the component it intends to install.

Durability has particular commercial weight when the promise involves reducing maintenance. A product team considering fewer battery changes has to account for the service life of the added photovoltaic component, its protective packaging and its power electronics. RadianX's technical site describes a projected field life derived from accelerated testing, which should be kept separate from years of observed customer operation.

The same care applies to claims of battery-free devices. RadianX's own homepage limits that outcome to suitable low-power designs and describes runtime extension for other applications. A buyer can evaluate the benefit against an actual power budget, rather than assume that a new photovoltaic material removes every product's charging requirement.

The Founders' Work Moves Into Customer Hardware

RadianX's current team page identifies Vivian Qu as co-founder and CEO and Josh Douglas as co-founder and COO. Gary Chen is VP of Manufacturing. The company locates its materials, electrical engineering, commercialization and product-development work together in Redwood City, giving the manufacturing expansion a team responsible for the surrounding integration work.

The near-term commercial agenda includes device makers already examining those integrations. RadianX says it is working with NGK Corporation to pair its modules with EnerCera batteries in wireless asset trackers, and that it participates in the 2026 Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator run by Plug and Play. Those company-reported relationships describe development activity; they do not disclose shipment volumes or customer revenue.

The competitive decision for a device maker includes the familiar alternatives of wiring, periodic charging and replaceable batteries. Each assigns work somewhere in the product's life. Ambient-light harvesting changes that calculation when a usable surface and an appropriate operating environment can remove enough of the recurring burden to justify the integration.

RadianX is also advertising an energy-harvesting electrical engineering role and a founding growth role as it expands that work. The manufacturing line, power-management design and customer conversation now have to develop together. An engineering team evaluating an AlphaGlass sample needs a path from the energy it measures on the bench to modules it can keep receiving for the product that follows.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can ambient-light harvesting reduce a device’s battery maintenance?

It depends on the light reaching the device, available collection area, power consumption and storage. RadianX targets suitable low-power designs where its modules can extend runtime or reduce routine battery replacement; battery-free operation is application-specific.

How does RadianX’s $9M financing relate to its manufacturing partnership?

The announced total combines venture and project financing. SOSV and Twynam co-led the Seed, while Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing is funding a dedicated production line; the combined headline should not be treated as equity Seed capital alone.

Which RadianX product formats are available today?

RadianX lists rigid AlphaGlass and semitransparent AlphaVis as available. Its flexible AlphaFlex film remains in development, so a buyer should distinguish current modules from the roadmap.

What evidence should an engineering team request before designing in AlphaGlass?

RadianX reports TÜV qualification across IEC TS 63163 Categories 1, 2 and 3, along with environmental compliance testing. Buyers should review the underlying reports for the exact module and operating conditions, then validate their own power budget and reliability requirements.

What does the planned 6MW line establish about commercial scale?

The 6MW figure is the capacity RadianX describes for its first automated production line. It does not establish measured output, a commissioning date or customer shipment volumes, which were not disclosed in the reviewed announcement.
