M2 Foundry Raises Pre-Seed Funding to Build Dual-Use National Infrastructure Startups

Venture capital spent the last 10 years chasing frictionless convenience while geopolitical pressure quietly redrew the architecture of modern infrastructure. Now the room is changing temperature fast, and M2 Foundry walked directly into the blast radius. Not with another food delivery app wearing an “AI-powered” trench coat. M2 Foundry is building where software stops being convenience and starts becoming national infrastructure.

Financial System Security. Supply Chain Resilience. Secure AI Systems. Decision-Ready Information. That isn’t startup bingo. That’s the nervous system of modern civilization. The reason this matters is buried inside a phrase most people outside defense circles never hear until it’s too late: “the valley of death.” The place where promising technology gets stranded between government R&D and commercial execution. Venture capital wants hypergrowth and fireworks. Government funding wants patience measured with a sundial. Meanwhile builders sit in the middle trying to commercialize technologies that could matter for decades.

M2 Foundry looked at that gap and said, “Maybe the model is the problem.” That’s a dangerous sentence in any industry. Dr. Catherine Havasi brings MIT Media Lab DNA with years spent directing the Digital Intuition group while commercializing advanced technologies through startups and licensing. Mike Widener spent more than 25 years inside the CIA, including 17 years deployed overseas before leading work around emerging technology and national security implications. Mike Sanders brings 20 years of enterprise technology go-to-market and operational experience across venture-backed, private-equity-backed, government, and dual-use environments. That’s not a traditional founding team. That’s Ocean’s Eleven for geopolitical infrastructure.

Now New North Ventures has led M2 Foundry’s pre-seed round, alongside an angel syndicate organized by EnFi co-founder Scott Weller. Quietly. Strategically. People who understand the next global race won’t be won by whoever ships the loudest marketing campaign. It’ll be won by whoever builds systems resilient enough to survive pressure when the temperature suddenly changes. The company describes itself as a dual-use startup studio. Build. Fund. Transition. 3 words that sound simple until you realize most organizations can barely manage one without setting 6 departments on fire.

The real signal here isn’t just defense tech. It’s infrastructure thinking. Because in this new era, talent matters. Data matters. Adaptability matters. The companies shaping the next decade may be the ones building the connective tissue between national security, economics, AI, and private-sector execution before the market realizes the operating system itself is being rewritten in real time.
