CureMeAbroad Raises $1.1M to Expand Medical Travel

Going abroad for treatment gives a patient another journey to arrange after the procedure: getting home with a care plan that still makes sense. CureMeAbroad is building its medical-travel business around that longer chain of responsibility, connecting hospital discovery with treatment coordination and follow-up.

The Pune, India company announced a $1.1M pre-seed round led by SteerX Ventures, with existing investor AIRA participating, according to October 6 reporting from ETEntrepreneur. Cofounders Aditya Oza, CEO, and Mikhail Bohra, CMO, plan to expand the hospital network, enter new patient source markets, strengthen AI technology and grow operations and technology teams.

The investment arrives shortly after an independent review of how CureMeAbroad facilitates medical travel. Together, the financing and certification place attention on a demanding business proposition: making cross-border healthcare easier to navigate while coordinating services delivered by several different organizations.

A second pre-seed financing for a wider patient journey

CureMeAbroad's current financing follows a separate $600K pre-seed round reported on April 21. The new $1.1M announcement should be understood as the latest disclosed round, rather than a relabeling of April's investment. Neither the valuation nor a precise transaction closing date has been disclosed in the sources reviewed.

Oza and Bohra founded CureMeAbroad in 2025. The company's own account of its beginnings describes a concierge service launched in the middle of that year, helping people coordinate hospitals and travel abroad. That starting point matters because the business began with people navigating an unfamiliar process, then built discovery tools around the work of helping them through it.

The latest round is led by SteerX Ventures, a healthcare-focused investor whose official offering combines funding with operator guidance, partnerships and market access. SteerX founder and CEO Lalit Singla leads a team focused on healthcare innovation. Returning investor AIRA also participated; the announcement does not disclose each investor's allocation or the ownership acquired.

For a medical-travel platform, a sector-focused backer can be relevant beyond the financing itself. Hospital relationships, patient communication and cross-border service coordination sit alongside software development in the operating model. The announced uses of capital reflect that combination, giving operations a place beside the AI technology budget rather than treating support as a detail to solve later.

Discovery tools meet independent healthcare providers

CureMeAbroad helps patients find and compare hospitals, explore doctors and procedures, obtain treatment estimates and arrange care abroad. Its public platform combines search and comparison with coordination services. The useful business distinction is between helping someone identify an option and helping that person carry a plan across medical records, consultations, travel and recovery.

The company's terms of use describe hospitals and doctors on the platform as independent entities. That relationship gives the facilitator an important coordination role while leaving clinical care with the provider. A hospital listing, a treatment estimate and a clinician's decision therefore represent different parts of the patient's journey, with different people responsible for each.

AI may help organize discovery and pricing information, but the public evidence does not establish a validated clinical model or comparative treatment outcomes. CureMeAbroad's technology should be understood in the context of its described platform functions. The financing announcement offers no basis for treating an estimated price as a final medical plan or a promised result.

This creates a distinctive operating challenge for the company. More destinations can make the service useful to more patients while also increasing the communication and coordination required around each case. An expanded directory reaches the patient early; the value of support continues to develop after that patient has selected a provider and begun arranging the trip.

Certification puts the facilitator's processes in view

On September 29, Global Healthcare Accreditation confirmed CureMeAbroad's Medical Travel Facilitator Certification. GHA described the review as an evaluation of practices and documentation against medical-travel facilitation standards. The certification concerns the organization coordinating the journey, with its own scope alongside the accreditation and clinical responsibilities of hospitals.

GHA also described a network of more than 400 accredited hospital partners across six countries. That provides a specifically defined partner-network figure; broader directory counts shown elsewhere on CureMeAbroad's website describe a different inventory. Combining those numbers would make the operating footprint appear more settled than the source definitions allow.

The significance for the financing story is practical. A facilitator can document how it communicates, selects partners and supports a patient throughout the process. Independent process review gives patients and prospective partners something to examine alongside the company's marketing, while treatment decisions and individual outcomes continue to depend on the circumstances of care.

Booking growth carries a coordination workload

In its own funding announcement, CureMeAbroad reports a $4.8M annual booking run rate. That figure describes bookings and should not be read as company revenue, cash collected or recurring software income. The sources reviewed do not disclose take rates, margins or independently audited patient outcomes.

CureMeAbroad's stated expansion includes new source markets and a larger hospital network. Reporting also describes plans to broaden into non-elective specialties such as orthopaedics and oncology and to explore physical experience centres internationally. These are intentions attached to the investment, rather than evidence that all those services or centres have already opened.

The founders are financing a company that needs both better discovery and dependable human coordination. As its reach expands, the work extends into the conversations between patients, hospitals and support teams in different places. The next hospital added to the network brings another set of arrangements that Oza and Bohra's team must make understandable to someone preparing to leave home for care.
