Haystack Robotics Raises $3.95M in Series A Funding

Haystack Robotics announced a $3.95M Series A on September 4, 2026, giving the Portland, Oregon company fresh capital to expand internationally and continue developing its AI and robotics platform. An entity associated with existing investor Agadia Systems led the inside financing, according to the company-issued announcement.

The company builds Violet AI, an autonomous mobile robot that delivers UV-C disinfection in hospitals and other shared facilities. The business case depends on more than germicidal light: Haystack is trying to make an additional disinfection step easier to deploy, safer to operate, and more visible inside the room-turnover workflow.

That distinction matters because environmental cleaning is already a system of protocols, training, monitoring, and human accountability. A robot earns its place only when it can join that system without creating another layer of labor, uncertainty, or paperwork for the people responsible for patient safety.

What Haystack Robotics Announced

The $3.95M Series A is an inside round led by an entity associated with Agadia Systems, a healthcare technology company and prior Haystack investor. Haystack did not disclose other participants, valuation, ownership terms, or individual check sizes, so those details remain outside the public record.

Founder and CEO Mahadev Eakambaram said the capital will support broader access to the company's disinfection technology, global expansion, and further product development. Agadia president and CEO Sri Swarna tied the investment to the potential for robotics and AI to support infection-prevention work and operating efficiency, but the announcement did not disclose a commercial distribution agreement between the companies.

The companies already have history. A 2024 SEC Form D reported $2.665M sold in a $4.415M offering, and GeekWire described that financing as a $2.7M seed round involving an Agadia-associated entity and a milestone-dependent additional commitment. Haystack's new announcement does not explain whether any of that structure overlaps with the Series A, so a cumulative funding total would overstate what is known.

What Violet AI Does

Violet AI combines eight UV-C lamps with autonomous navigation and computer vision. Haystack says the robot can move through a room without pre-mapping, identify high-touch objects that warrant additional UV-C exposure, shut off its lamps when a person enters the disinfection zone, and generate coverage maps and downloadable reports.

Those features address several practical obstacles around no-touch disinfection. Stationary light leaves shadowed areas, manual movement adds labor, occupied rooms create safety constraints, and infection-prevention teams need evidence that a cycle happened as intended. Mobility, person detection, and reporting turn the product into a workflow proposal rather than a lamp on wheels.

Haystack says Violet can complete some rooms in 15 minutes or less and reduce certain microbes by up to 99.99% when used as directed. Those are company claims, and the product page also states that UV-C can harm skin and eyes and that the device is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. The careful reading is the useful one: the system is designed to supplement environmental cleaning, with results depending on the facility, room, pathogen, dose, placement, workflow, and operating discipline.

Why Workflow Fit Is the Commercial Test

CDC guidance treats environmental cleaning as a coordinated infection-prevention program. Facilities need defined responsibilities, standardized protocols, technology selection, training, monitoring, and feedback, which means a robot enters a chain of decisions rather than an empty room.

The research record points in the same direction. A systematic review indexed by PubMed found positive results when UV-C was used as an adjunct to existing cleaning protocols, while calling for more work on safety standards. A separate hospital field study concluded that the UV-C robot it tested was not ready for integration at that institution, a reminder that germicidal capability and operational readiness are related but different claims.

Haystack's own in-clinic microbiology study reported lower microbial contamination when Violet followed manual cleaning. The study adds useful product evidence, although it remains company-produced and does not establish a broad reduction in healthcare-associated infections or patient outcomes.

Why Agadia Is a Specific Kind of Backer

Agadia builds utilization-management software for health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, third-party administrators, and other healthcare organizations. Its experience sits on the administrative side of care, where regulated workflows, documentation, and operational consistency determine whether technology becomes part of daily practice.

That background makes the investor relationship more interesting than a generic robotics check. Haystack needs to sell a physical system into environments where safety, proof, labor, and compliance meet, and Agadia understands how healthcare organizations evaluate process change. The investment alone does not prove channel access or product-market fit, but it aligns the capital with the kind of operating friction Haystack must solve.

What the Series A Changes

Haystack now has more room to develop its platform and extend a footprint that the company says spans Portland and Chennai. The current product already combines autonomy, object recognition, safety controls, reporting, and UV-C delivery, so the next phase is less about assembling a feature list and more about demonstrating that those features behave consistently across real facilities.

The financing also raises the standard of proof. Healthcare buyers will want site-level data on microbial reduction, room-turnover impact, staff workload, uptime, maintenance, safety incidents, training demands, and total cost. International expansion adds procurement rules, service expectations, and clinical practices that will differ by market.

Haystack is entering that work with an inside investor, a product built around repeatable deployment, and a clear human target: the teams performing difficult environmental-services tasks under time pressure. The next useful evidence will come from those rooms, where autonomy, documentation, and infection-prevention practice have to keep agreeing long after the financing announcement leaves the page.
