Coast Raises $35M to Expand Finance for Field Businesses

Putting vendor bills beside fuel-card charges changes who Coast has to satisfy inside a customer's business. A fleet manager needs to know where a driver can spend; the finance team needs to know who authorized the invoice and where the payment belongs in the books.

The New York fintech announced $35M in new growth equity on October 22, 2026, led by Thomvest Ventures. New investors Intuit Ventures, Small World Capital and Alpha Square Group joined a round intended to expand customer reach, AI-powered expense automation, Bill Pay and accounts payable products, and embedded partnerships.

Founder and CEO Daniel Simon is extending a business built around fleet spending into more of the money leaving a field-service company. Coast's opportunity lies in making those financial responsibilities fit the way contractors and transportation operators already work, including the software they open to manage vehicles, jobs and accounts.

A growth round expands Coast's financial remit

Thomvest first invested in Coast in 2024 and now leads the new financing. The returning investors named in the announcement are ICONIQ Growth, Accel, Insight Partners, Better Tomorrow Ventures, Avid Ventures, Vintage Investment Partners, Colle Capital, Synchrony, RXR and The Fintech Fund. That roster gives the expansion continuity with investors who backed the earlier fleet-payments business, alongside new participants with their own connections to financial software.

In the Coast-issued funding release, Thomvest Managing Director Don Butler describes an investment thesis centered on payments and credit controls embedded in the workflows of specific industries. Intuit Ventures adds a particularly concrete relationship: Coast already integrates with QuickBooks, and Daniel Simon identifies Intuit as a deep integration partner. The investment brings that relationship into the capitalization table without establishing any new exclusive commercial arrangement.

The latest financing is described as growth equity, with no numbered series or valuation disclosed. Coast's July 18, 2024 announcement concerned a separate $40M Series B led by ICONIQ Growth. That earlier release distinguished nearly $100M in equity financing from a preceding $92M package that included debt. Keeping those categories separate matters when assessing how the company financed its expansion; the October announcement does not supply a reconciled current cumulative total.

Bill Pay brings a different approval chain into the product

Coast's Bill Pay product documentation describes a sequence from invoice capture through approval and payment to accounting synchronization. An invoice can arrive through an upload, a photograph or a connected inbox. Coast says its AI extracts details such as the vendor, amount and due date, while customer-defined rules route the bill to an approver. The financial decision still has an owner even when software removes the typing and follow-up.

The documented payment options include ACH, check, wire and Coast card, with payments syncing to QuickBooks Online. For a company already using Coast cards, that puts vendor bills into an existing spending environment. It also introduces different obligations: an invoice has to be recognized, reviewed and paid on terms that make sense for the business, rather than treated as another card swipe.

The vehicle side supplies another kind of context. Coast's integration directory describes using GPS information to decline transactions when the vehicle is far from the pump, matching odometer readings to fuel purchases, and sharing transaction and maintenance information with Fleetio. Those capabilities let operating information affect financial controls before the finance team is left reconstructing the event later.

That combination explains the attraction of a specialized financial platform. A purchase carries meaning inside the business that a generic payment record may omit: which vehicle was present, who was using the card, and which accounting category applies. Coast's product expansion seeks to preserve more of that meaning as the payment moves between people and systems.

Fleet software becomes a route into financial services

Embedded partnerships can change where a company encounters its next financial provider. Coast says operators can manage its card controls within platforms including Samsara and Fleetio. The sales proposition therefore reaches beyond adding features to Coast's own dashboard: financial activity can appear inside software that already has a regular role in the customer's working day.

DevCuration's recent coverage of CapitalOS and embedded finance for B2B platforms examines a related approach to bringing financial products into established software relationships. Coast carries its own industry-specific card and expense product into fleet and field-service workflows. The common commercial question is how a financial supplier earns a useful place inside an application the customer already trusts.

The surrounding market is also expanding across more of the finance team's work. DevCuration's Ramp coverage describes cards and payments extending toward accounting execution, while DashFuel's growth investment illustrates the demand for coordination within petroleum distribution software. These are different businesses and financing events. Together, they help explain why the relationships among physical operations, payment decisions and financial records are attracting product investment.

More payment types widen the engineering responsibility

Coast CTO Anton Maximov's engineering-culture essay describes deliberate development in a complex, regulated financial environment. That posture becomes consequential as a platform handles more kinds of outgoing money. An approval rule and an accounting integration sit close to decisions customers expect to remain understandable when somebody asks why a payment happened.

The institutional roles also remain specific. Coast's legal disclosures identify the company as a fintech, with the Coast Visa Commercial Card issued by Celtic Bank and Bill Pay services provided by Grasshopper Bank, N.A. Expanding the software suite brings more financial work into the product while those banking relationships continue to define who provides the underlying services.

The new capital is intended to support customer expansion and the broader product and partner agenda, but Coast has not disclosed allocations or a product-by-product timetable. For Daniel Simon, the expansion carries a practical obligation across the customer's organization: the person approving a supplier bill and the person controlling fleet purchases need the growing platform to keep their decisions connected. Coast is asking to remain useful through both of those working days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Coast connect fleet operations with financial controls?

Coast documents integrations that use vehicle location and odometer information alongside card transactions, including GPS-enabled declines when a vehicle is far from the pump. Its accounting and fleet integrations help carry the purchase context into the systems finance and operations teams already use.

What is the purpose of expanding from fuel cards into Bill Pay?

Bill Pay brings vendor invoices into the environment customers use for Coast card spending. Coast documents invoice capture, approval routing, several payment methods and QuickBooks Online synchronization, giving the company a broader role in outgoing business payments.

Why is Intuit Ventures joining the financing relevant?

Coast already integrates with QuickBooks, and founder and CEO Daniel Simon describes Intuit as a deep integration partner. The investment connects that existing product relationship with the growth-equity round; the announcement does not establish an exclusive distribution agreement.

Is Coast itself the bank behind the card and bill-payment services?

Coast identifies itself as a financial technology company. Its disclosures say Celtic Bank issues the Coast Visa Commercial Card and Grasshopper Bank, N.A. provides Bill Pay services.

What funding details remain undisclosed in this announcement?

The October 22, 2026 announcement identifies $35M of new growth equity and the participating investors, but does not disclose a valuation, numbered series or reconciled current cumulative total. It outlines intended investments in customer expansion, expense automation, Bill Pay/AP and embedded partnerships without a product-level allocation timetable.
