First Day Gets Paine Schwartz Backing for Family Wellness

Alice Li built First Day around a customer who could shop for several people at once. The family supplement brand gives that buyer products for different ages and daily routines, turning one household relationship into an opportunity to earn several places in the cupboard.

Paine Schwartz Partners completed a strategic investment in the Austin, Texas company through Food Chain Fund VI, the firm announced on October 22, 2026. Founder and CEO Alice Li will continue leading First Day. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The partnership brings a food-chain specialist into a business already selling through its own website, Amazon and retail. For First Day, broader distribution makes the explanation of its products an operating concern: the family encountering a bottle in a store needs to understand the proposition without taking the entire website along.

A household business with several routes to the buyer

First Day's catalog spans multivitamins, magnesium, probiotics and brain-support formulations, with assortments organized around family members. The website puts age groups beside product categories, offers bundles and promotes monthly replenishment. Its commercial design gives a buyer several ways to assemble a routine and keep purchasing within the same brand.

That household focus has a clear founder account behind it. In a February 2025 Shopify interview, Alice Li described mothers as the company's central marketing audience and emphasized purchases for multiple family members. The commercial implication is straightforward: the value of acquiring a customer can depend on how much of the household's demand the brand can responsibly serve.

First Day had already taken that proposition into physical retail before the investment. Its December 30, 2025 announcement introduced 9 gummy products for kids, teens and women at select Target stores nationwide and Target.com. The initial assortment covered multivitamins, magnesium and probiotics, extending the brand beyond the environment it controls on its own site.

These channels create different encounters with the same family. An online buyer can spend time with ingredient explanations and subscription options; somebody in a store can compare nearby bottles and move on. The strategic question is how well First Day's product explanation survives those changes in context while keeping the brand recognizable.

Why a food-chain investor fits this stage

Paine Schwartz's stated strategy includes health and wellness alongside productivity and sustainability in the food system. The firm describes an operational approach to supporting businesses and flexibility across control investments and growth equity. Those are useful clues to its interests, although its general strategy cannot establish the ownership structure of this particular deal.

First Day sits at the consumer end of that mandate. Families encounter the business through a product they repeatedly buy, rather than through the industrial assets usually associated with the phrase food chain. Ingredient sourcing, formulation, packaging, channel relationships and customer communication all feed into whether that bottle earns another purchase.

The investment also follows a founder history of paying attention to economics early. Shopify reported that Alice Li set a goal of reaching profitability within 6 months of launch and beat it by 1 month. That is a historical account from the founder, rather than a statement of First Day's current margins. It explains why customer acquisition costs and repeat household demand belong in the discussion of the new partnership.

A specialist investor can be relevant to the work surrounding a consumer brand as well as its financing. First Day's announcement points toward continued omnichannel development, with Alice Li remaining in charge. Public disclosures leave the allocation of proceeds and detailed spending timetable open, so the transaction supports a direction of travel without supplying a budget for each step.

The product story has to travel with the bottle

First Day's science page explains the brand through researched nutrients, formulation choices and absorption claims. Its testing page says the company's multivitamins, magnesium and tribiotics hold Clean Label Project certification. These are elements of the company's product proposition and quality communication, not independent conclusions here about clinical outcomes.

The distinction matters commercially because families are being asked to evaluate several kinds of information together. Ingredients describe what goes into a formula. Testing addresses specified quality questions. Evidence about a nutrient and evidence about a finished formulation answer different questions. A brand selling several products across age groups needs enough clarity for the buyer to understand which explanation applies to the bottle in hand.

On its own website, First Day can give those topics separate pages and follow them with a product selection journey. Retail compresses the encounter into packaging, shelf placement and whatever information a shopper chooses to seek out. Amazon adds another context in which product details and comparison sit close together. Distribution therefore increases the number of places where First Day's own descriptions need to remain coherent.

That is the operating consequence of the household strategy. A buyer may recognize First Day from one family member's product, then consider another formula for somebody else. Familiarity can help the next purchase, while the particulars of ingredients, age groups and intended use still need to be explained each time.

Continued founder leadership across a wider business

Alice Li's founder story ties First Day's origins to her family's experience of nutritional hardship. The company presents convenience and family habits as central design concerns. That background helps explain why the brand extends across generations instead of organizing its identity around a single product.

The new partnership preserves that founder at the head of the company while adding an investor whose mandate includes consumer health and wellness. The disclosed record establishes the parties, the completed strategic investment and the existing channels. It leaves valuation, ownership percentage, current financial performance and specific expansion milestones undisclosed.

First Day's development now runs through several versions of the same buying decision: a subscription renewal, an Amazon order, a parent stopping at a Target display. Alice Li and the team have to keep a family-oriented proposition understandable in each place, with enough continuity that the next bottle still belongs to the relationship that started the first purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does First Day’s household focus matter commercially?

Alice Li has described mothers buying for multiple family members as central to First Day’s approach. Selling across ages and routines can expand a household relationship, while each formulation still needs a clear product explanation.

How does the Paine Schwartz investment fit First Day’s retail expansion?

First Day had already announced products at select Target stores nationwide and Target.com in December 2025. Paine Schwartz’s October 2026 investment adds a specialist food-chain investor as Alice Li continues leading the business across direct sales, Amazon and retail.

What do the disclosed terms establish about the investment?

Paine Schwartz said Food Chain Fund VI completed a strategic investment in First Day. Financial terms, valuation, ownership percentage and the allocation between company capital and shareholder liquidity were not disclosed.

How should readers interpret First Day’s formulation and testing claims?

First Day positions its products around researched ingredients and reports Clean Label Project certification. Ingredient research, specified quality testing and clinical evidence about a finished formula answer different questions; this article does not establish product health outcomes.
