Dren Bio Raises $350M in Private Financing

Sanofi bought a Dren Bio program in 2025 and left a substantial company behind it. That continuing business is now financing the clinical and commercial work around a different antibody, carrying responsibility for more of a medicine's journey toward patients.

Dren Bio, based in San Carlos, California, announced an oversubscribed $350M private financing on October 29, 2026. Juvia Group and Lightspeed Venture Partners co-led the round, which supports late-stage development, regulatory submission and a planned commercial launch of dibotatug, alongside further pipeline development.

The distinction between a successful asset transaction and the company that continues afterward explains much of this financing. Dren has pharmaceutical relationships on one side of its business and an investigational lead medicine on the other, requiring its own clinical, regulatory, manufacturing and commercial capabilities to develop together.

What the $350M financing funds

Dibotatug, also called DR-01, is an investigational antibody targeting CD94. Dren is developing it in cytotoxic T-cell lymphoma and large granular lymphocytic leukemia, with additional work in other hematologic and autoimmune conditions. The company describes a design intended to selectively deplete pathogenic cytotoxic cells while preserving the broader immune system.

The financing extends that development effort toward regulatory submission and a possible commercial launch. Those are company plans rather than completed milestones. An approval decision, the eventual label and the timing of any launch remain consequential parts of the development work ahead.

New financing participants include Mirae Asset Capital Life Science, General Catalyst, Cormorant Asset Management and OrbiMed. Returning investors include 8VC, SR One, Taiho Ventures, Mission BioCapital, HBM Healthcare Investments, BVF Partners, Aisling Capital and ArrowMark Partners. The announcement identifies a private financing without a series letter or disclosed valuation, so assigning a new alphabetic round would add a detail the company has not supplied.

For an investor, the use of proceeds reaches beyond obtaining another clinical result. Preparing a company to submit a medicine and potentially supply it creates dependencies between functions that operate on different calendars. Clinical work establishes the evidence, regulatory work organizes the submission, and commercial preparation must remain responsive to what the evidence ultimately supports.

The people preparing for a commercial company

Founder and CEO Nenad Tomasevic brings a history of antibody research, including co-founding Allakos. Dren's current leadership page names Amit Mehta as President and COO, Benjamin Kozub as SVP and Head of Commercial, and Shalini Gidwani as SVP of Regulatory Affairs. Kozub joined in May 2026, several months before this financing announcement.

That timing gives the financing an organizational dimension. A company preparing for commercialization needs people to do work before it can know the final commercial opportunity. Waiting for every uncertainty to disappear would leave essential preparation until late in the process; starting earlier brings payroll and coordination costs into a period still governed by experimental outcomes.

Dren's founding history also extends beyond its current executive roster. Its 2020 financing announcement identified John Wesley as a co-founder and then CFO, while the University of Belgrade identifies Ivan Trifunovic as a co-founder. Those historical associations should be kept distinct from present operating titles.

The new financing also changes the board. Sujal Shah, co-founder and Managing Director at Juvia Group, and Shelley Chu, a Lightspeed partner, have been appointed directors. Their involvement places the two co-leading firms closer to decisions about how Dren advances its clinical assets and develops the organization around them.

A partnered asset and an independent pipeline

Sanofi's acquisition agreement concerned DR-0201 through the Dren-0201 affiliate. It specified $600M upfront and potential further development and launch milestone payments totaling $1.3B. Sanofi subsequently confirmed completion on May 27, 2025.

DR-0201, now SAR448501, is separate from dibotatug. Sanofi's original agreement explicitly said Dren Bio would continue operating independently after the acquisition, preserving a distinction that an acquisition headline can easily obscure. A pharmaceutical company can buy a program while its creator continues developing other medicines.

The asset transaction and the private financing consequently serve different economic purposes. One transfers a defined program under a negotiated agreement; the other supplies capital to the continuing company. Potential milestones remain conditional, and combining their headline maximum with a financing amount would obscure both the timing and the nature of the resources involved.

Dren's Targeted Myeloid Engager and Phagocytosis Platform provides another part of that continuing research business. The company describes multispecific antibodies designed to engage myeloid cells in clearing disease-causing targets. The broader pipeline gives the organization additional development responsibilities alongside its lead candidate, with different programs carrying different evidence and ownership histories.

Clinical progress and the work between stages

The financing announcement reports more than 300 patients dosed in dibotatug's Phase 1/2 program. Dren describes response activity and favorable safety and tolerability, without providing numerical response rates in that announcement. Those descriptions should remain attributed to the company rather than converted into a comparative claim about clinical performance.

For the business, expanding into additional indications would create further development choices around the same candidate. Each proposed use brings its own clinical questions, and a broad research ambition does not make the evidence interchangeable across diseases. The financing supports the work of investigating those possibilities while the most advanced programs continue.

Dren's commercial preparation therefore sits within a larger sequence of responsibilities. Its team has to preserve the distinctions among an investigational candidate, a planned submission, a partnered asset and a potential marketed medicine, even as those activities compete for management attention inside one company.

The new capital gives Tomasevic, Mehta and their colleagues more scope to coordinate that sequence. For the commercial organization Kozub joined this year, the assignment keeps developing alongside the clinical and regulatory record that will determine how dibotatug can ultimately reach patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Dren Bio preparing commercial operations before dibotatug is approved?

The financing supports late-stage development, regulatory submission and a planned commercial launch. Preparing those functions takes time, while the eventual approval, label and launch timing still depend on evidence and regulatory decisions.

Did Sanofi acquire Dren Bio or its lead candidate dibotatug?

Sanofi acquired the separate DR-0201 program through the Dren-0201 affiliate, completing the transaction in May 2025. Dren Bio continued independently, and dibotatug, also called DR-01, is a different candidate.

How does dibotatug differ from the myeloid engager platform?

Dibotatug is an investigational monoclonal antibody targeting CD94. Dren Bio also develops multispecific antibodies through a platform designed to engage myeloid cells in clearing disease-causing targets; the programs should not be treated as interchangeable.

How should readers interpret the clinical evidence in the financing announcement?

Dren Bio reports more than 300 patients dosed in its Phase 1/2 dibotatug program and describes response activity and tolerability. The announcement does not provide numerical response rates, and the candidate remains investigational.

Can the Sanofi deal value be added to the new financing as cash raised?

The $350M private financing and the Sanofi program acquisition are different transactions. Sanofi described $600M upfront plus potential milestone payments; contingent milestones should not be counted as cash received or combined into a verified equity-funding total.
