BOB Raises $5.5M Seed for Banking-Funded Finance AI

A $0 software price can still carry a substantial commercial ambition. BOB gives small-business owners an AI finance agent and says the banking relationship pays for it, placing the choice of where to keep money inside the decision about who should handle the books.

The Miami startup has raised a $5.5M Seed round, led by Mischief, according to Refresh Miami's October 22, 2026 founder interview. CEO Adam Wininger, CTO Jason Brill and CPO Kody Greenbaum are building a product that connects financial work to the software and conversations a business already uses.

That combination gives the financing an unusually practical question to answer. Can an assistant earn enough responsibility in daily operations to become part of an owner's banking relationship? BOB's pricing and permission controls put both decisions in front of the same customer, while its new capital supports product expansion, onboarding and Miami hiring.

How BOB connects free software to business banking

BOB's product details explain the commercial arrangement: the company earns on the deposit side when customers run business banking through BOB, supporting the software without a subscription. The customer sees books, invoices, estimates and follow-up work in that offer. Behind those tasks sits an effort to earn a more durable financial relationship.

For an owner, the appeal is easy to understand. Administrative work competes with serving customers, managing staff and finishing paid jobs. BOB describes connections to existing accounting, invoicing and estimating tools, with text, Slack and email among the ways an owner can interact. Keeping those familiar tools reduces the amount of new behavior the product asks customers to learn.

The economics also change the way to read the free offer. A subscription price tells a software buyer what the vendor expects to earn from access. BOB instead connects its compensation to banking activity, so a prospective customer needs to understand the financial relationship supporting the agent. The company has not disclosed the unit economics needed to judge how that arrangement performs as usage grows.

DevCuration's coverage of CapitalOS and embedded finance follows a related commercial question: how financial services fit into the software organizing a business. BOB approaches that relationship through an assistant taking instructions from the owner.

Financial delegation happens one permission at a time

BOB says its agent begins read-only. Customers enable permissions individually and set dollar thresholds above which an action requires approval, while activity appears in an audit trail. Those are company-described product controls; an owner still needs to assess their suitability for the business and the particular workflows being connected.

The sequence matters commercially. An owner can examine information before deciding how much work to delegate, and an approval threshold provides a concrete way to describe that authority. The conversation becomes specific: which actions can happen, who has to approve them, and what record will remain? Each answer affects whether the product can become useful during an ordinary working day.

That is a different adoption assignment from persuading someone to try another dashboard. An assistant participating in invoices or financial records needs instructions that survive real operating conditions, including the moment a customer is late, a document is incomplete or an owner wants to review an exception. These are examples of the work a buyer must consider, rather than reported BOB failures or independently tested capabilities.

The company's details page describes SOC 2 as in progress. Its privacy policy also explains how business data and assistant requests reach service providers. Those disclosures belong in the buying conversation alongside convenience, particularly as an owner considers granting broader access.

What the Seed round brings into the onboarding work

The $5.5M financing supplies capital for expanding BOB's capabilities and bringing more businesses onto the service. Refresh Miami names Peter Thiel, Codie Sanchez, Mark Pincus and Karman Ventures among the participants. Previous rounds, valuation and lifetime funding were not established in the sources reviewed, so the Seed amount stands on its own.

Wininger reported 500 business signups and a 10-person Miami-area team in the interview. Those figures describe an early operating position, with signups attributed to the founder. They do not establish paid usage, retention or how much financial work each business has delegated.

Onboarding therefore deserves attention in its own right. An owner arriving with existing records needs the assistant to understand enough of that history to be useful. The permissions then have to reflect how that particular business makes decisions. Serving more businesses expands the number of operating arrangements the product and team must support, even when the interface remains a short message.

Coast's work with field-business finance offers another view of financial software meeting daily operations. The businesses and products differ, but both records direct attention toward the person authorizing work and the information available when money becomes involved.

The banking relationship keeps developing after signup

BOB's own disclosures identify it as a financial technology company, with bank deposit services provided by Erebor Bank NA. Calling the software an employee does not change that structure. The distinction helps a buyer understand which organization supplies the assistant and which supplies the banking service, without treating the product's branding as a legal description.

For the founders, the work spans those relationships. A useful response in an existing communication channel can make an owner willing to return; a useful history of actions can help that owner decide what else to delegate. Banking economics support the offer, but the reason to keep using the assistant has to appear in the work it handles.

The Seed round gives BOB resources to develop that experience with more businesses. In Miami, Wininger, Brill and Greenbaum now have to carry the simple promise of a free finance employee into the varied records, approval habits and working days of the owners coming aboard. Each additional responsibility gives the banking relationship another place in the business to earn its keep.
