Wavelet Medical Raises $7M Seed to Develop Non-Invasive Fetal Brain Monitoring with AIP NP[Q

In a delivery room, decisions don’t arrive with perfect clarity, they arrive compressed, urgent, and carrying consequences that don’t wait for second opinions. For years, clinicians have had to read between the lines, leaning on heart rate patterns to infer what the brain might be doing. Wavelet Medical steps into that tension with a sharper instrument, one that listens where it actually matters.

Wavelet Medical, out of New Haven with roots in Brooklyn and deep Yale DNA, pulled in $7M in Seed funding with Aegis Ventures leading the charge. That’s not just capital, that’s a co-creation engine with teeth. Murray Brozinsky doesn’t sit in board chairs for the view, and when Aegis leans in, it usually means the market is about to get a lot less comfortable staying the same.

Credit where it’s due. Liz Golden, Co-Founder and CEO, didn’t just raise a round, she stitched together science, strategy, and just enough conviction to make people uncomfortable betting against her. Dr. Emily Lee, Co-Founder and CMO, brings the clinical gravity, MD, FACOG, the kind of credentials that don’t blink when stakes get real. And Dr. Jose Cortes-Briones, Co-Founder and Head of Science, built the signal path, turning what used to sound like noise into something you can actually act on.

Here’s the play. Wavelet Medical is building a non-invasive, AI-powered fetal EEG platform. Not heart rate as a proxy. Not educated guesswork. Actual brain activity, captured through a wearable sensor belt, reconstructed with proprietary algorithms, and delivered in real time. Translation, clinicians can see neurological distress as it happens, not after the damage writes its own story.

The old system leaves a lot on the table. Fetal heart rate monitoring can be indeterminate in up to 85% of births, which means too many gray zones and too many decisions made under uncertainty. Wavelet Medical tightens that gap. Earlier detection, clearer signals, fewer unnecessary interventions, and a real shot at reducing preventable brain injuries that still show up far too often.

Before this round, they stacked nearly $1M in non-dilutive funding, NIH, Blavatnik, the kind of backing that says the science isn’t just interesting, it’s credible. Then they layered in clinical pilots across Yale, LA General with USC, and Yonsei in South Korea. That’s not a theory tour, that’s real-world pressure testing across continents.

The takeaway isn’t just that Wavelet Medical raised money. It’s how they did it. Start with a problem that hasn’t been solved properly in decades. Anchor it in serious research. Prove early signals with credible partners. Then bring in a venture partner like Aegis that knows how to turn innovation into infrastructure. Wavelet Medical isn’t trying to be louder. They’re trying to be clearer. And in a room where every second matters, clarity tends to win.
