Scout Space Raises Up to $18M in Series A to Expand Space Domain Awareness Infrastructure

Space used to sound romantic. Endless black skies. Noble missions. Humanity reaching upward with orchestral music playing in the background like we all collectively graduated from Earth. Then reality showed up wearing steel-toe boots and carrying orbital debris at 17,500 mph. Now space looks less like science fiction and more like downtown traffic after a bad infrastructure bill. Thousands of satellites. Defense assets. Commercial constellations. Experimental hardware. Dead machinery tumbling through orbit like shopping carts in a hurricane. Everybody loves the “new space economy” until a multimillion-dollar asset gets smoked because nobody saw the problem coming fast enough.

That’s why Scout Space raising up to $18M in Series A funding matters. Not because space suddenly became trendy for venture capital tourists wearing fleece vests and quoting science fiction on podcasts. This matters because Scout Space is building the infrastructure layer for orbital awareness, and the timing could not be sharper if it were cut with aerospace-grade titanium.

Big respect to CEO Josiah Gruber, CPO Courtney Sayles, Eric Ingram, Sergio Gallucci, for building a company that understands something most people still miss: space isn’t empty anymore. It’s operational terrain. This round was led by Washington Harbour Partners with participation from VIPC, Noblis Ventures, Decisive Point, Fusion Fund, and existing investors who clearly understand where the market is heading. Quietly, intelligently, and with far less theater than the average startup pretending a chatbot is divine intervention.

Scout Space develops space domain awareness sensors and autonomy software that help spacecraft detect, track, characterize, and respond to objects in orbit in near real time. Their “See, Learn, Act” framework sounds simple until you realize what it actually means. Sensors. Edge processing. Autonomous decision-making. Machines that don’t just observe the environment but understand it while moving through it. That changes the equation.

The company already has serious flight heritage. SCOUT-Vision launched in 2021. Sparrow captured first-light imagery after launching aboard SpaceX Transporter-10 in 2024. Owl sensors are headed for Blue Origin’s inaugural Blue Ring mission. The company also secured multiple U.S. Space Force TACFI contracts while integrating SpaceSight into Saber Astronautics’ marketplace. That’s not startup cosplay. That’s execution with fingerprints on actual missions.

And the name Scout Space fits perfectly. Good scouts move ahead of danger. They identify patterns before panic starts charging overtime. They create visibility where everyone else is still guessing. In orbit, guessing is expensive.

The funding will support expanded sensor deployment, software development, and a new 2,600-square-foot manufacturing facility in Northern Virginia while scaling headcount from roughly 30 employees to more than 50 over the next 18 months. Because the future space economy won’t belong to the loudest company in the room. It’ll belong to the one that sees the collision coming first.
