Fission Raises $10M Series A for Tokenized Fund Liquidity

A fund manager can keep the quarterly redemption calendar while an investor sells the position to Fission. The financial technology company is building a business around accepting the interval between those two decisions, giving tokenized investment funds an outside source of liquidity without requiring their managers to change the assets underneath.

Fission announced a $10M Series A on October 15, 2026, led by Pantera Capital. Circle Ventures, New Form, gumi Cryptos Capital, Borderless Capital and Ari Rubenstein, CEO of GTS, participated. The New York company plans to expand supported assets, liquidity capacity and institutional integrations, putting more operating resources behind the market that develops after a fund interest becomes a token.

For investors and financial platforms, that market determines how readily a position can become cash or useful collateral. Fission's opportunity rests on supplying a counterparty prepared to own the waiting period, with the eligibility controls and underwriting that regulated investment products require.

What Fission's Series A finances

The issuer says the $10M round has closed. Pantera Capital, the blockchain investment firm leading the financing, is backing infrastructure for the work that follows issuance: supporting movement, financing and liquidity around digital fund interests. The announcement separates expansion of liquidity capacity from broader asset coverage and institutional integrations, three related expenses with different operating demands.

Founder and CEO Jonathan Shaffer leads Fission alongside cofounders Steve Bendit, CRO, and Chris Humphrey, CTO, whose roles are identified in current reporting. The company describes its infrastructure as designed for permissioned markets. Investor eligibility and restrictions on transfers remain part of the product, rather than administrative details a fast transaction can leave behind.

There is a capital-allocation question inside the software story. Expanding the range of assets requires deciding which positions to support, understanding their redemption terms and arranging the capital needed to hold them. The financing announcement does not specify how much of the equity raise will become liquidity inventory, so the $10M should remain the funding-round figure rather than an advertised redemption facility.

Fission's October 2024 pre-seed announcement described a $1.6M round led by SALT Fund and Kraynos Capital, with Anthony Scaramucci participating. At that point, Fission was launching a closed Ethereum testnet focused on venture products. The current business reaches across a broader set of tokenized funds, while retaining the original concern with an investor's ability to sell.

A sale can finish before the fund redeems

The cleanest explanation comes from the parties already connecting the product. In an August 25 announcement, Centrifuge described Fission providing USDC liquidity for HYB, ACRDX, JAAA and JTRSY. Those products give tokenized exposure to strategies associated with New York Life Investment Management, Apollo and Janus Henderson, ranging from credit to Treasuries.

Centrifuge says holders can access liquidity through Fission while settlement with the underlying fund follows its existing schedule. ACRDX's standard redemption path is quarterly, making the division of responsibilities especially visible. The fund continues running its investment strategy while an outside provider supplies a holder's earlier exit.

That arrangement gives the asset manager a different commercial conversation. A prospective investor can ask about available liquidity alongside the strategy's return profile and redemption terms, without the manager having to redesign the portfolio to accommodate every possible withdrawal date. The usefulness of the additional route will depend on its terms and available capacity for the particular asset.

For the liquidity provider, each completed sale creates work beyond the transfer itself. Somebody must evaluate the position, commit cash and manage the time until another exit or redemption becomes available. The interface makes that arrangement accessible; the holding period supplies the economics that the business has to get right.

Underwriting becomes part of the distribution story

Fission's official company updates describe acquiring supported fund positions and managing the underlying risk through available redemption windows. The company also describes individual position underwriting. These details matter because the instrument arriving in a wallet still carries the characteristics of the investment it represents.

A lending platform considering a tokenized fund position as collateral needs a route to realize value if a borrower defaults. A treasury team needs to understand when an allocation can return to usable cash. In both cases, the buyer's operational requirements reach into liquidity provision, so a specialist provider can become relevant well before the holder decides to sell.

The corresponding sales task is unusually specific. Fission has to help an institution evaluate the quality of an exit route alongside the quality of the fund itself. Asset coverage, pricing, eligibility and capacity all belong in that conversation. A recognizable fund name can introduce the product, but the counterparty managing the holding period gives the institution something separate to assess.

Fission reports having processed millions of dollars in redemptions, without disclosing a precise transaction total or revenue figure in the funding release. That establishes a company-reported operating signal while leaving room for institutions to ask about performance across different conditions. As coverage broadens, more of those conversations will end with a practical question about the position in front of the buyer: who can take it today, on what terms, and with how much capital ready behind the answer?

Frequently Asked Questions

How can Fission offer liquidity before a fund redeems?

Fission acquires supported fund positions from eligible holders and manages the underlying risk through available redemption windows. The fund retains its established redemption process while a separate counterparty supplies the earlier exit.

Why does liquidity affect whether a tokenized fund can serve as collateral?

A lending platform needs a workable route to sell collateral if a borrower defaults. A supported liquidity route can make a fund position more useful, although eligibility, terms and available capacity still matter.

What will the Series A support beyond adding more funds?

Fission says the financing will expand liquidity capacity and institutional integrations as well as asset coverage. The announcement does not allocate the $10M between software development, operations and liquidity inventory.

Does Fission require asset managers to change their investment strategy?

Centrifuge describes Fission providing an outside liquidity route while underlying funds retain their established strategy and redemption process. That separates the holder’s sale from the manager’s normal redemption calendar.

How has Fission’s scope developed since its pre-seed round?

The October 2024 pre-seed announcement centered on a closed Ethereum testnet for venture products. The current company describes liquidity infrastructure across a broader range of tokenized funds, including credit and other institutional investment products.
