Isomorphic Labs Reportedly Eyes $40B-$50B Funding Valuation

Novartis expanded its research collaboration with Isomorphic Labs before the latest valuation discussion arrived. The London-based AI drug-design company is already working with pharmaceutical partners while developing its own pipeline, an operating ambition now drawing attention well beyond the laboratory.

Bloomberg reported on October 8, 2026 that Isomorphic Labs, founded by Demis Hassabis and launched from Google DeepMind, was in early funding talks at a valuation of at least $40B, potentially $50B. The financing had not closed, terms could change, and the new round's size and investors were undisclosed. The proposed price puts the scale of AI drug design into the capital conversation while the company's scientific and clinical work continues on its own timetable.

What Bloomberg Reported About the Financing

The October report concerns discussions about new financing. Its valuation range describes a possible price for Isomorphic Labs; it does not describe cash raised. Bloomberg attributed the talks to people familiar with the matter and said the company had not responded to its request for comment. A final agreement, participant list and definitive valuation remained outside that report's established facts.

The last completed round in Isomorphic's reviewed official announcements is its $2.1B Series B, announced May 12, 2026. Thrive Capital led it, with Alphabet, GV, MGX, Temasek, CapitalG and the UK Sovereign AI Fund participating. The company said those proceeds would support its drug-design engine, therapeutic programs, global scale and specialist hiring. Those are the stated purposes and participants of the May financing.

Isomorphic also announced a $600M first external investment round in March 2025, led by Thrive with GV and Alphabet participating. Together, the two disclosed external rounds total $2.7B. That history explains the company's ability to finance a substantial research organization, but it supplies no missing terms for the October discussion. A familiar investor name still needs a new source before it can be placed in a new round.

The Pharmaceutical Work Behind the Price Discussion

Isomorphic Labs is building a business around the design of potential medicines. Its technology overview describes a unified engine spanning multiple therapeutic areas and drug modalities, with internal programs focused on oncology and immunology. Computational models are part of the machinery; chemists, biologists and the eventual development program determine how that machinery becomes useful.

The company's September explanation of its approach to making medicines with AI makes the workflow tangible. Researchers give a design agent a biological target and desired molecular properties. In one company-described example, the computational search ran over 2-4 days before selected compounds were synthesized and tested in the laboratory. This is a preclinical design example, with results reported by Isomorphic, rather than evidence of clinical efficacy or a universal drug-development timetable.

For a pharmaceutical organization, the commercial question reaches into the program around that molecule. A useful design has to address a particular target and fit the work required to carry it further. Isomorphic's integrated approach places model development, biological data and scientific teams close to those decisions. The interpretation behind the valuation discussion is therefore larger than a software tool's convenience: it concerns how much of the discovery process one company could organize and repeat across programs. That remains an ambition whose value depends on the work produced.

The Leadership Handoff from Models to Medicines

Isomorphic's current leadership roster identifies Demis Hassabis as founder and CEO and Max Jaderberg as President. Jaderberg, a founding-team member with a background at DeepMind, moved from Chief AI Officer into the presidency effective January 1, 2026. That progression gives the company a leader whose experience building its AI capabilities now sits inside a broader operating responsibility.

The clinical side has a visible organizational place too. Isomorphic appointed Ben Wolf as CMO and established a Cambridge, Massachusetts presence in June 2025. The company is headquartered in London and also has a Lausanne office. Those locations and appointments show a research enterprise being assembled across disciplines and geographies, without establishing that any particular candidate has succeeded in humans.

This is the management consequence inside the financing story. Teams generating molecules, teams testing them and people preparing the clinical work need decisions that carry across their specialties. More resources can expand the work underway, but the organization still has to choose which candidates deserve the next commitment. Jaderberg's current title matters because the engine's ambitions now meet the responsibilities of running the enterprise around it. The proposed financing has no disclosed operating plan yet; the existing company offers the evidence for understanding what that plan would enter.

Partnerships and Data Shape Isomorphic's Position

The official partnership record includes Novartis, Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson. Isomorphic's Novartis collaboration began in January 2024 around three difficult targets and expanded in February 2025 to add up to three further research programs. Lilly's collaboration concerns undisclosed targets, while the Johnson & Johnson relationship spans multiple modalities. Each relationship connects the computational approach to a pharmaceutical institution with its own scientific priorities.

That positioning gives Isomorphic a competitive question beyond the performance of an individual model. An engine becomes part of a continuing research relationship when its output helps a partner make a consequential program decision. Internal candidates give Isomorphic another path for developing its own work. Maintaining both paths requires different commercial arrangements and scientific commitments, which makes the surrounding organization part of the product's practical value.

Data is expanding the institutional story as well. On October 7, Isomorphic announced that it had joined the Biohub-convened Virtual Biology Initiative as a founding member. The effort seeks to generate accessible biological data for predictive AI models. Its participation does not imply that Isomorphic's proprietary engine or all its internal data becomes public, but it places the company inside a broader effort to improve the material that biological models learn from.

For operators following clinical-development financing at Matchpoint Therapeutics, the useful continuity is the work passing between these institutions: a difficult target, a computational design, laboratory evidence and a decision to develop a candidate further. Isomorphic's reported funding talks put a possible price on the enterprise carrying those handoffs. The next disclosed financing terms will enter a company whose partners and scientific teams are already deciding which molecules deserve another stage of work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the reported $40B-$50B range describe money raised?

It describes a possible company valuation discussed in early funding talks, according to Bloomberg. The report said the financing had not closed and the new cash amount was undisclosed.

How does IsoDDE connect computational design with laboratory work?

Isomorphic describes using AI to generate candidate molecules against biological targets and desired properties, then synthesizing and testing selected compounds. Its computational examples are preclinical work, not evidence of clinical efficacy.

What gives pharmaceutical partners a role in this business?

Novartis, Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson work with Isomorphic on research programs. Those relationships connect the engine to pharmaceutical targets and development expertise, while Isomorphic also advances internal programs.

Why does the leadership structure matter as programs advance?

President Max Jaderberg brings experience leading the company's AI work, while CMO Ben Wolf supplies clinical leadership. Together with founder and CEO Demis Hassabis, their roles show the different disciplines involved in carrying computational designs further into development.

What would establish the terms of the proposed financing?

A subsequent authoritative financing announcement would need to establish the round size, participants, final valuation and transaction state. The October 8 report supports early-talks coverage; historical round details should remain separate.
