Matchpoint Therapeutics Raises $150M Series B for MPT-062

In 2027, Matchpoint Therapeutics plans to bring its covalent chemistry work into clinical development. The Watertown, Massachusetts biotech has closed a $150M Series B to advance MPT-062, an oral T-cell modulator for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, toward clinical proof of concept while supporting its broader pipeline.

Nextech Invest and Norwest co-led the financing, announced October 7, 2026. The round places more capital behind a discovery business that already has a separate Novartis-funded program, giving CEO Andre Turenne and his team several development relationships to manage as the scientific questions move closer to patients.

For investors following immunology, the useful detail is where the money is supposed to take the research. Matchpoint has built tools to find and evaluate covalent molecules; this round finances the move toward evidence about a named medicine, with a clinical calendar now attached to the ambition.

A Series B with a clinical destination

Matchpoint describes MPT-062 as a first-in-class oral T-cell modulator and expects clinical development to begin in 2027. Proceeds are intended to support clinical proof of concept and the broader pipeline, rather than a disclosed commercial launch. The announcement provides a destination for the capital without publishing the trial design, enrollment plan or human efficacy results.

New investors Invus, BB Biotech, T1D Fund and BOLD Longevity Growth joined the financing. Access Biotechnology, Atlas Venture, Sanofi Ventures and Digitalis Ventures are named returning investors, alongside other existing backers. The mix carries the company's earliest financing relationships into a stage where the work will demand a different kind of evidence.

Nextech Managing Partner Kanishka Pothula and Norwest Principal Brian Matesic were announced to join Matchpoint's board. Matesic's employer biography describes experience with biotech development, clinical trials and commercialization. Their appointments bring the co-leads into the company's governance while its lead program prepares for clinical development.

The investment decision is therefore tied to a specific transition in the company's work. A discovery platform can generate programs, but a clinical program gives the board a more concentrated set of decisions about development priorities and the evidence those priorities need. Matchpoint's announcement has put MPT-062 at the center of that conversation.

The scientific founders built around selective attachment

Matchpoint's scientific founders are Nathanael Gray, Tinghu Zhang, Jianwei Che and Edward Chouchani, drawing on Stanford University, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. Their work sits behind the Advanced Covalent Exploration, or ACE, platform. The operating team includes Andre Turenne as President and CEO and Jared Cumming as CSO.

The company's discovery platform combines cellular chemoproteomics, machine learning and an evolving library of covalent compounds. Chemoproteomics helps the team examine how molecules interact with proteins in a cellular environment. Computational work helps prioritize targets and inform chemistry, while the compound library supplies material for the search.

Covalent chemistry is attractive because a molecule can form a strong attachment to its protein target. Matchpoint's scientific ambition depends on making that attachment selective enough to support a useful medicine. Finding a binding site and understanding which other proteins a candidate touches belong to the same development problem; a persuasive discovery result has to carry both questions forward.

Matchpoint describes its pipeline as targeting biologically validated proteins that conventional approaches have struggled to address. The company's tools explain how it intends to pursue those targets, while the planned clinical work will ask different questions about the candidate's behavior. For ecosystem operators, that distinction keeps the platform's discovery capabilities connected to the actual program absorbing the development budget.

For a separate oral immune-disease development path, DevCuration has also covered Sling Therapeutics' clinical financing. Matchpoint's focus here remains MPT-062's planned clinical entry and the covalent-discovery work supporting it.

Novartis finances a separate research handoff

Matchpoint's July 24, 2025 agreement with Novartis covers oral covalent inhibitors directed at a transcription factor linked to inflammatory diseases. Matchpoint leads research through development-candidate selection. If Novartis exercises its option, it receives global rights to develop and commercialize products arising from the collaboration.

The agreement provides for up to $60M in upfront payment and research funding, with up to $1B in total potential payments, plus tiered royalties. Those amounts describe a contractual pathway with conditions attached. The announcement leaves the exact split, amounts received and future milestones undisclosed, so treating its headline value as cash raised would obscure the relationship it pays for.

The Series B announcement explicitly identifies the Novartis-funded effort as an additional program. It gives no basis to assign MPT-062 to that agreement or to say Novartis has exercised its option. The company-led clinical priority and partner-funded research therefore need to remain identifiable when discussing Matchpoint's pipeline and financing.

For Turenne's team, the agreement creates a defined scientific handoff: advance a program to candidate selection, then allow a partner to decide whether to take on its global development. The equity financing supports another stretch of the company's work. Keeping those paths visible makes Matchpoint's operating model easier to understand than a single combined capital headline would.

The capital history follows the research

Matchpoint launched publicly in October 2022 with $100M in financing. That figure comprised a $30M seed round in November 2021, co-led by Atlas Venture and Access Biotechnology, and a $70M Series A led by Sanofi Ventures. Adding the new Series B gives $250M across those disclosed equity rounds.

The earlier launch funded platform and discovery work in immunology. The new round names a lead asset and a planned clinical start, making the progression legible without assuming that every discovery objective has been resolved. Matchpoint's investors are carrying an academic scientific foundation into a development organization with increasingly specific programs to fund and oversee.

Biotech financing becomes more useful to follow when the evidence milestone stays beside the dollar figure. For Matchpoint, MPT-062's planned 2027 clinical development and the Novartis program's candidate-selection work sit on different paths. As the team advances both, those named programs will give investors a clearer view of where the discovery engine is taking them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does covalent chemistry add to Matchpoint’s drug discovery approach?

Covalent chemistry allows a molecule to form a strong attachment to a protein target. Matchpoint combines cellular chemoproteomics, computational discovery and covalent compound libraries to find useful binding sites and examine selectivity. Clinical benefit for MPT-062 remains to be established.

Which development work is the Series B intended to fund?

Matchpoint plans to begin clinical development of MPT-062 in 2027. The $150M Series B is intended to support that oral T-cell modulator toward clinical proof of concept and advance the broader pipeline; the announcement does not disclose a trial protocol or human efficacy results.

How does the Novartis agreement differ from the equity financing?

The July 2025 agreement provides for up to $60M in upfront payment and research funding, with up to $1B in total potential payments plus royalties. Those conditional collaboration amounts are separate from the $250M across Matchpoint’s disclosed seed, Series A and Series B equity rounds.

Who would develop the Novartis-supported program after candidate selection?

Matchpoint leads research through development-candidate selection. If Novartis exercises its exclusive option, Novartis receives global rights to develop and commercialize resulting products. The Series B announcement describes this as an additional program, without identifying MPT-062 as the licensed program.

How has Matchpoint’s disclosed funding progressed?

Matchpoint disclosed a $30M seed in November 2021 and a $70M Series A at its October 2022 public launch. Its October 2026 $150M Series B brings those disclosed equity rounds to $250M, with the new financing focused on clinical development and pipeline work.
