Intuit Agrees to Acquire Sequence for AI Revenue Management

Kombo had recorded the usage. Getting the resulting overages onto invoices still required manual calculations, according to a September customer account published by Sequence. The revenue software supplier says its system captured $729K in overages for the integration-infrastructure company, illustrating how much commercial work can remain after a customer signs.

That is the territory Intuit wants to bring into its financial platform. On October 15, 2026, Intuit announced a signed agreement to acquire Sequence, the London- and New York-based company building software for the journey from a negotiated quote through billing and revenue recognition. The planned acquisition would extend Intuit Enterprise Suite and QuickBooks Online Advanced, giving the accounting-software group a stronger role in how businesses turn increasingly complicated contracts into revenue.

What Intuit agreed to buy

The official announcement describes an acquisition agreement, with financial terms undisclosed. Tech.eu, reporting on October 16 and citing The Times, relayed an estimated price of around $200M. That estimate remains a media report; the reviewed primary announcements have not established a completed transaction or disclosed consideration.

Founded in 2021, Sequence serves business finance teams managing pricing, invoicing, collections and revenue recognition. Riya Grover is its co-founder and CEO. A June 2026 FT Partners industry report identifies fellow co-founders Eamon Jubbawy as chair and Enda Cahill as COO, a leadership group spanning the company whose revenue workflow Intuit now wants to acquire.

The proposed combination has a clear product direction. Intuit wants to serve businesses whose prices depend on consumption, user seats, usage or milestones, including B2B software companies and professional-services firms. The purchase would put more of the machinery behind those commercial arrangements inside a group already supplying their financial software.

For a finance buyer, that changes the acquisition's significance. A contract's special terms influence several later jobs: calculating an invoice, explaining a disputed charge and deciding when to recognize the revenue. Owning more of that sequence gives Intuit a larger part in the work surrounding its customers' books.

Custom contracts create an accounting problem

Sequence's founder introduction describes the difficulty of moving sales-led businesses from contract to revenue when customers negotiate their own terms. The underlying problem is easy to recognize: the business wants freedom to sell a useful commercial arrangement, while finance needs a repeatable way to administer it. Each exception that helps close a sale has a life after the salesperson's job is done.

Kombo's account makes that pressure concrete. The company charged a platform fee with a connected-account allowance and additional charges above the allowance. In the vendor-published case study, Sequence says Kombo had been calculating those overages manually and rebuilding invoices across US and German entities. The reported $729K is captured billable overages in that customer account, rather than Sequence's revenue or an independently audited cash-collection figure.

The same account describes retaining Stripe for payments while moving the billing workflow, with HubSpot, DATEV and Xero connections. That detail matters more than a tidy migration slogan. A finance team can change which application interprets the contract while keeping another supplier responsible for moving the money.

For operators, the useful distinction is between a payment working and a contract being billed correctly. A successful payment cannot recover an allowance calculation that never reached the invoice. Product evaluation therefore needs to follow an actual negotiated agreement across its full billing life, including amendments, approvals and exceptions that somebody will have to explain later.

An ERP choice starts before the ledger

Ashley Still, Intuit's EVP and GM for Small Business & Mid-Market, connects complex revenue management with the decision to adopt an ERP in the acquisition announcement. Her rationale puts the commercial workflow close to Intuit's expansion strategy. By addressing the work before revenue reaches the books, Intuit is seeking a broader role with customers whose growing complexity might otherwise send them looking for another system.

There are already capable suppliers competing for that work. Stripe markets Metronome, a Stripe product, for usage-based and hybrid pricing, including enterprise contracts and multidimensional billing. Intuit's planned purchase enters a market where the discussion already includes flexible pricing infrastructure, rather than creating that market from scratch.

The strategic difference is where a supplier begins the customer conversation. A billing specialist can start with the commercial model; an accounting-platform provider can start with the business's existing financial operations and advisers. Sequence would give Intuit more to discuss when that customer asks how its next product or negotiated contract should be billed.

DevCuration's Rillet funding coverage offers related context on investment in AI-native accounting software. The Sequence agreement approaches the finance-software opportunity through revenue operations, extending the argument upstream into the terms a business agrees with its customers. The eventual buyer will still have to decide how much of that work belongs with one provider and how much should stay with specialist applications.

The work moving into Intuit

Sequence's December 16, 2025 funding announcement reported a $20M Series A led by 645 Ventures, with a16z, Firstminute Capital, Vor Capital, Passion Capital and DIG Ventures participating. Sequence said it had raised $38M in total at that point. Those are historical financing figures, distinct from the undisclosed acquisition terms, and they describe the capital behind the independent company's development.

In the same announcement, Sequence described AI assisting with contract intake, invoice review and payment chasing while billing arithmetic remained deterministic and finance teams retained control. That is a consequential division of responsibility. A business can use software to interpret and organize work while keeping the amounts charged tied to rules a finance operator can inspect.

The target's acquisition release names FT Partners as its exclusive financial and strategic adviser. It also says Grover will join Intuit's Mid-Market product organization as part of the acquisition, linking the people who built the product to the organization responsible for the next version of it.

Intuit says Sequence customers will continue to receive support and an integrated offering will be developed in the coming months after closing. For the accounting firms advising those customers, a useful demonstration will begin with the client's own contract: the discounted opening period, the usage allowance, the rate change that arrives later. As Intuit's product organization decides how to package Sequence, those details will keep arriving in the finance team's inbox.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Intuit want revenue management in its mid-market products?

Intuit says Sequence would expand Enterprise Suite and QuickBooks Online Advanced for businesses using consumption, usage, seat and milestone pricing. The planned combination would connect more of the work between a negotiated contract and the financial books, including billing, collections and revenue recognition.

How does Sequence connect custom pricing to finance operations?

Sequence provides software for quotes and contracts through invoicing, collections and revenue recognition. A negotiated allowance, overage rate or pricing change can therefore inform the billing workflow rather than requiring a separate manual calculation for each invoice.

Is the reported $200M acquisition price confirmed, and has the deal closed?

Intuit's October 15, 2026 announcement confirms a signed acquisition agreement and says financial terms were not disclosed. Tech.eu relayed an approximately $200M estimate attributed to The Times; the reviewed primary announcements do not confirm the price or establish a completed transaction.

What role does AI play in Sequence's billing workflow?

Sequence's December 2025 product explanation describes AI assisting with contract intake, invoice review and payment chasing. It says billing calculations remain deterministic and finance teams retain oversight, distinguishing task automation from probabilistic arithmetic.

What has Intuit said about existing Sequence customers and integration?

Intuit says it will continue supporting Sequence customers and develop an integrated offering in the coming months after the acquisition closes. The announcement does not provide a firm release date, final product packaging or customer pricing commitments.
