Gravity Raises $30.5M Series A for AI Advertising

Gravity raised a $30.5M Series A to build advertising infrastructure for AI platforms, chatbots, assistants, and software agents. Lightspeed Venture Partners and Committed Capital co-led the round, bringing the San Francisco startup's total funding to $38.5M.

The financing matters because Gravity is not pitching a nicer banner ad for a chatbot. The company was founded by Zach Oldham, CEO, and Leo Martinez, CTO, who are building a demand platform for advertisers, a supply platform for AI developers, and the exchange connecting both sides. Gravity is also testing advertising aimed at software agents themselves, pushing paid discovery closer to ranking, recommendation, attribution, and eventually approved transactions.

That is an ambitious position in a market where the largest AI platforms and advertising companies already have distribution, budgets, and measurement systems. Gravity's opportunity is the fragmentation between them: thousands of AI products need revenue, advertisers want access to high-intent conversations, and neither side benefits from integrating a different buying and measurement stack for every application.

What Happened

Gravity's $30.5M Series A was announced on August 6, 2026. Lightspeed Venture Partners and Committed Capital co-led the financing, while Gravity's current hiring material identifies Caffeinated Capital and Basis Set Ventures as seed backers. The company did not disclose a Series A valuation, a complete participant list, or a round-specific spending allocation.

The $38.5M total-funding figure indicates Gravity had financing before this round, but the exact amount and structure of each earlier raise have not been disclosed. That distinction matters. Subtracting one headline number from another can produce arithmetic, but it does not produce a financing history.

Oldham and Martinez founded Gravity in 2025. Oldham previously founded Flax Labs, a marketing measurement and services business that he says grew into a 45-person company and brand incubator. That background helps explain why Gravity is focused on the commercial plumbing behind AI advertising rather than a single consumer-facing format.

How Gravity's AI Advertising Stack Works

Gravity describes itself as the ad network for AI. Its developer documentation says the system uses recent conversational context to retrieve relevant campaigns, run an auction, and generate sponsored creative for the moment. AI platforms can integrate through server-side and client-side SDKs while Gravity handles matching, rendering, impression tracking, analytics, and payouts.

The architecture serves 2 markets at once. Advertisers use Gravity to buy access to commercial intent inside AI conversations, while AI developers use it to monetize usage without relying entirely on subscriptions. The exchange between those groups is the strategic center of the company because it can collect performance signals from demand and supply as the network grows.

Gravity publicly uses CPM billing and first-party tracking pixels. The company says its pixels do not share data across unrelated sites, an important product claim in a category built around conversational context. The harder test will be whether Gravity can deliver relevance, disclosure, and measurement at enough scale to satisfy both developers protecting user experience and advertisers demanding accountable performance.

From Chatbot Ads to Agent-to-Agent Commerce

Gravity has placed text ads across AI products including ChatGPT, Codebuff, EcoGPT, Daimon, Magneta, Runable, and CTO.new. Advertisers have included Best Buy, Target, Vercel, and MongoDB. Those names show early access to recognizable platforms and brands, but Gravity has not disclosed the revenue, campaign spend, conversion rates, or customer counts needed to measure the commercial weight of those relationships.

Gravity's more consequential experiment targets software agents rather than only human readers. Advertisers provide product catalogs, current features, and promotions that can inform an agent when it evaluates what to recommend. Gravity plans to add payment integrations that could let an agent complete a purchase after the user approves it, but that capability is forward-looking rather than a current product feature.

This changes the advertising question. In a conventional interface, a sponsored placement is visible and a person chooses whether to click. In an agent interface, paid information can enter a recommendation process before the user sees a ranked answer, making disclosure, provenance, and the boundary between relevance and influence much more important.

Why the Series A Matters

Gravity says its network already serves millions of ads per day, although that metric is company-reported. An Inference.net case study says Gravity replaced a general-purpose 70B model with a specialized 1B model, reducing p99 latency from 1,992 milliseconds to 351 milliseconds and inference cost by roughly 10x. Those figures come from Gravity's infrastructure provider, but they illustrate the engineering pressure behind conversational advertising: an ad that arrives after the answer is commercially useless.

The Series A gives Gravity more capacity to build before the market structure hardens. The company is hiring engineers in San Francisco to work on real-time auctions, machine-learning scoring, attribution, and data infrastructure. The company has not disclosed a round-specific hiring target, so the funding should not be translated into an invented headcount plan.

Investor interest also reflects a larger market thesis. Business Insider cited WPP Media's forecast that global advertising in generative AI search could exceed $100B by 2030. That forecast is not Gravity guidance, but it explains why independent ad networks, incumbent adtech vendors, AI platforms, agencies, and major internet companies are all positioning for the same emerging budget pool.

The Competitive Test

Gravity is entering a market where Google operates the world's largest advertising business and OpenAI has already assembled adtech partners. Established vendors bring advertiser relationships, buying workflows, identity systems, brand-safety controls, and years of measurement data. AI platforms can also decide to keep their best inventory inside closed systems rather than share economics with an independent exchange.

Gravity's counterargument is focus. A network designed for AI conversations can optimize formats, latency, contextual matching, developer integrations, and agent behavior without carrying the assumptions of web pages, feeds, or search-result ads. If Gravity connects enough independent supply with enough advertiser demand, the network can become more useful as each side grows.

That outcome is not guaranteed by a financing round. Gravity still has to prove durable supply, repeat advertiser demand, transparent ranking, credible attribution, brand safety, and economics that work for developers. The $30.5M Series A buys time and talent to pursue that proof; it does not substitute for it.

What Gravity's Funding Signals

Gravity's round signals that investors see AI monetization as infrastructure, not an afterthought. Model access remains expensive, subscription fatigue is real, and many AI applications need a business model before they can offer broader usage. Advertising is an obvious candidate because it financed earlier internet platforms, but conversational and agent interfaces require different technical and governance choices.

For operators, the lesson is less about copying Gravity's product than noticing where a new market needs shared rails. The company is betting that the most valuable layer will sit between advertiser demand and AI-product supply, standardizing auctions, context, measurement, and payouts across a fragmented ecosystem.

For Gravity, the next evidence will matter more than the headline. Publishers will want revenue without damaged trust, advertisers will want attributable outcomes, and users will need to understand when paid information shapes a recommendation. If Gravity can make those incentives legible while keeping the infrastructure fast, the company may earn a durable position beneath the interface where AI decisions happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Gravity build for AI platforms and advertisers?

Gravity operates advertising infrastructure for AI conversations. Its stack connects advertiser demand with AI-platform inventory through contextual matching, auctions, creative, measurement, conversion tracking, and publisher payouts.

Why did investors back Gravity's $30.5M Series A?

The round reflects a bet that AI products need monetization infrastructure beyond subscriptions and that advertisers want access to commercial intent inside AI conversations. Gravity is trying to become the independent exchange connecting those 2 groups.

What is agent-to-agent advertising?

In Gravity's test model, advertisers provide current product catalogs, features, and promotions that software agents can consider during recommendations. Gravity plans to support approved payment execution later, but that capability is forward-looking.

What should AI product operators watch as Gravity scales?

Operators should watch revenue yield, latency, ad relevance, disclosure, brand safety, user trust, and the quality of attribution. The model works only if monetization improves the economics of AI products without degrading the experience.

What evidence would show Gravity's model is becoming durable?

Useful evidence would include repeat advertiser demand, growing independent AI-platform supply, attributable conversions, transparent ranking controls, and economics that reward developers. Gravity has not yet disclosed revenue, campaign-spend, or conversion metrics.
