FIZE Medical Reaches First Close Toward $20M Series B

Asahi Kasei Medical already had one job in FIZE Medical's expansion: bring the FIZE kUO urine-output monitoring system into Japanese hospitals. The relationship now carries a second responsibility. Asahi Kasei Medical is co-leading FIZE Medical's Series B first close, investing alongside Rapha Capital Management while extending distribution into Europe.

The accounting deserves precision. FIZE Medical said the first close makes progress toward a $20M financing target, but the company-issued announcement did not disclose how much capital closed in this tranche. The verified event is an undisclosed first close toward $20M, not a completed $20M raise.

The distinction does not make the announcement smaller. It makes the operating story clearer. A strategic distributor is moving from carrying the product into new markets to sharing ownership risk while FIZE Medical tries to turn continuous bedside measurement into predictive clinical decision support.

What FIZE Medical Announced

The September 17, 2026 first close was co-led by Asahi Kasei Medical and Rapha Capital Management. FIZE Medical said it will use the proceeds to accelerate development of FIZE Optima, a platform under development that is designed to use continuous physiologic data to predict fluid-related risk and guide treatment decisions. The company also plans to strengthen commercial activity in its leading markets.

Rapha Capital is a returning investor. In January 2025, FIZE Medical announced a completed $30M Series A, including a $14M Series A-4 led by Rapha Capital Management. Existing investors then exercised $6M of warrants in March 2026, bringing the company's reported Series A total to $36M.

Those figures should not be converted into a current total-funding number. The first-close amount remains undisclosed, and the $20M figure is the Series B target. Valuation, security terms, investor allocations, ownership changes, board changes, and a timetable for the remaining close were not announced.

Why a Distributor's Investment Carries Different Information

Financial investors study markets, teams, clinical evidence, and deal terms. A distributor encounters another layer of reality: procurement cycles, local regulation, training, hospital integration, technical support, inventory, and the daily friction that determines whether a medical device survives outside a demonstration.

Asahi Kasei Medical entered that layer through the exclusive Japan distribution agreement announced in December 2025. The company will now distribute FIZE kUO in Europe as well. That does not independently validate every product or outcome claim, but it places a commercial partner with direct exposure to the rollout on the investor side of the relationship.

For FIZE Medical, the arrangement can connect capital with market access. For Asahi Kasei Medical, the investment adds financial participation to a product relationship that fits its existing presence in blood-treatment, purification, dialysis, and critical-care systems. The strategic logic depends on execution across both sides: FIZE must supply evidence, product reliability, and support, while Asahi Kasei Medical must translate distribution reach into hospital adoption.

From Continuous Measurement to Predictive Support

Founder and CTO Noam Levine began with a practical constraint in fluid management: a critical output signal was still being read and recorded through manual workflows. The current FIZE kUO system continuously digitizes urine output, presents trends and alerts at the bedside, and can send data into the electronic medical record.

That measurement layer matters because fluid management in critical care requires clinicians to interpret changing signals while balancing the risks of too little and too much fluid. FIZE Medical's next ambition is more demanding. FIZE Optima is intended to use continuous physiologic data to predict fluid-related risk and support treatment decisions.

The boundary between the two products must remain visible. FIZE Medical's own company story says predictive and AI-powered features described as future concepts are not part of the currently approved FIZE kUO system. Moving from monitoring to prediction creates new requirements around clinical evidence, regulatory review, explainability, integration, and clinician trust. The Series B is financing work that still has to clear those gates.

Commercial Expansion Meets the Evidence Burden

FIZE Medical received CE Mark and UKCA certification for FIZE kUO in July 2026, enabling commercial activity across Europe and the UK. The company also reports commercial availability in the U.S. and Japan. These milestones give the expanded Asahi Kasei Medical relationship an actual route to market instead of a theoretical geography.

Independent reporting from CTech said Soroka and Beilinson hospitals use the system, Sheba was expected to implement it, and 60 ICU beds in Israel were equipped. Those are useful commercial signals, although they appear to be company-derived rather than audited deployment metrics. FIZE Medical has not publicly disclosed current revenue, unit sales, recurring consumables economics, hospital retention, or the conversion rate from pilots to scaled adoption.

The clinical evidence also needs proportion. A 2020 study involving 22 ICU patients reported that the electronic urinometer had a lower average deviation from graduated-cylinder measurements than manual readings. That is evidence about measurement accuracy in a small study. It is not, by itself, proof that the system improves patient outcomes, and it does not establish the performance of the future Optima platform.

What the Series B Now Has to Carry

FIZE Medical is asking the same underlying data stream to do progressively harder work. First, measure urine output continuously. Then integrate that information into hospital workflows. Next, help clinicians anticipate fluid-related risk. Each step moves the product closer to consequential decisions and increases the standard of proof.

The first close gives CEO Dror Zerem and the FIZE Medical team capital to advance that work while the remainder of the round is still open. It also places more weight on a partnership that now spans Japan, Europe, distribution, and ownership. If the relationship works, FIZE Medical gains a commercial channel with incentive to understand the product deeply; Asahi Kasei Medical gains exposure to a critical-care platform adjacent to its existing medical-device portfolio. The next evidence will arrive in several forms rather than one dramatic reveal: the amount and timing of the final Series B close, hospital adoption across Europe, regulatory progress for Optima, clinical validation of predictive guidance, and the routine work of making continuous data useful during a shift when a care team has no patience for a product story.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much did FIZE Medical raise in the Series B first close?

FIZE Medical did not disclose the amount closed in the first tranche. The company said the first close made progress toward a $20M Series B target, so $20M should not be reported as the amount already raised.

What does the FIZE kUO system do?

FIZE kUO continuously digitizes urine output for critical-care workflows, shows bedside trends and alerts, and can send data into an electronic medical record. It is designed to replace intermittent manual measurement with a continuous data stream.

How is FIZE Optima different from FIZE kUO?

FIZE kUO is the current monitoring system. FIZE Optima is a platform under development that FIZE Medical says is intended to use continuous physiologic data for predictive, AI-guided decision support; those future features are not part of the currently approved kUO system.

Why does Asahi Kasei Medical's investment matter?

Asahi Kasei Medical already distributes FIZE kUO exclusively in Japan and will add European distribution. Its investment joins capital with a commercial partner that has direct exposure to procurement, localization, training, support, and hospital adoption.

What remains undisclosed about FIZE Medical's Series B?

FIZE Medical has not disclosed the first-close amount, valuation, security terms, investor allocations, ownership changes, board changes, or the timetable for reaching the $20M target.
