Siena AI Builds the Agent of Record for Consumer Brands

Siena AI builds AI agents and customer intelligence software for consumer brands. Founded in 2022 by Andrei Negrau and Lisa Popovici, the New York-headquartered, globally distributed company began with customer service and is now building what it calls the Agent of Record: one operating layer for support, shopping, social, reviews, quality, and customer insight.

Siena matters because consumer brands do not experience customers as neat software categories. A refund request can become a product complaint, a subscription question, a retention risk, or a buying signal in the same conversation. Most company stacks split those moments across help desks, ecommerce systems, social tools, review platforms, and spreadsheets. Siena is trying to make the agent and the human operator work from the same customer context.

The company reports that hundreds of brands use Siena in production, including SPANX, FIGS, HexClad, Comfrt, Kitsch, and Grüns. Siena says its software has handled hundreds of millions of interactions, can automate up to 80% of them, and maintains an average CSAT of 4.81. Those are company-reported figures, but they show the scale of the bet: Siena is no longer testing whether generative AI can answer a support question. It is testing whether an agent can become part of a brand's operating system.

About Siena AI

Negrau and Popovici came to Siena through commerce. Siena says the founders spent more than a decade as Shopify merchants and operators, where they saw the limits of customer-service automation firsthand. Negrau's earlier company, Cartloop, used personalized messaging to help brands convert and retain customers. The lesson was straightforward: brands wanted automation, but customers could feel when the software understood a workflow without understanding the person inside it.

That became Siena's founding problem. The company started with an empathic customer-service agent that could work across email, chat, direct messages, and other channels while following a brand's policies and tone. The product has since expanded into a portfolio that includes a Customer Service Agent, Shopping Agent, Social Agent, Reviews Agent, QA Agent, Topics Explorer, Memory, Docs, and a shared inbox.

Ask Siena shows where the platform is heading. Brand operators can provide an SOP, transcript, or URL and use the system to build or improve an agent workflow. They can also query customer conversations to identify product issues, cancellation patterns, quality problems, and emerging demand. The inbox stops being only a place where work arrives. It becomes a source of operating intelligence.

Why the Agent of Record Matters

The phrase Agent of Record is Siena's category claim, but the underlying problem is familiar. Consumer brands often use ten or more disconnected tools to manage customer relationships. Each system holds a slice of context, and each handoff creates another chance for the customer to repeat the same story.

Siena wants to collapse that fragmentation around a shared memory. A support agent can resolve an order problem. A shopping agent can help with a purchase. A quality agent can score the interaction. Topics Explorer and Ask Siena can turn the conversation into a signal for the broader business. The same customer context moves through the system instead of being rebuilt from scratch every time.

That is a more ambitious proposition than ticket deflection. Deflection is measured by what never reaches a person. An Agent of Record has to be measured by whether the brand understands the customer better, acts more consistently, and protects the moments where human judgment matters.

The distinction matters because AI customer experience is entering its second argument. The first was whether models could produce a useful reply. The next is whether companies can govern agents that remember customers, take actions across business systems, and influence revenue as well as support cost.

Traction, Funding, and Market Position

Siena announced a $17M Series A in October 2026 led by York IE, with participation from Joyance Ventures, Aglaé Ventures, Sierra Ventures, and Super Angel Fund. The company reports $29.7M in total funding. Its verified earlier financing includes a $4.7M Seed round led by Sierra Ventures.

The investor list matters less than what the capital is expected to support. Siena is expanding from a strong initial support use case into a broader platform that touches commerce, intelligence, workflow building, and quality. Each new surface increases the value of shared context, but it also increases the burden on integrations, evaluation, permissions, and brand control.

Siena's customer roster gives the strategy a defined market. Consumer brands live or die by repeat purchases, subscriptions, product trust, and the emotional residue of a service interaction. Their customer conversations also contain unusually rich product and demand data. If Siena can connect execution with insight, the company can sit closer to both the cost center and the growth engine.

Competition will not wait politely. Help-desk vendors are adding generative AI. Commerce platforms own transaction data. Horizontal agent companies are moving into customer experience. Brands can also build internal systems around foundation models. Siena's durable advantage has to come from vertical depth: knowing the commerce stack, understanding brand-specific policy and tone, learning from real interactions, and making the whole system easier to govern than a patchwork of point products.

Leadership, Culture, and the Team Siena Is Building

Negrau leads Siena as CEO, while Popovici serves as President. The founders present the company as a globally distributed team of operators and builders. Siena's public culture emphasizes first-principles reasoning, direct communication, AI fluency, fast shipping, and ownership of outcomes rather than narrow tasks.

That language is easy for a careers page to print. The hiring mix is more informative. Siena listed 17 open roles across engineering, product, deployment, go-to-market, account management, operations, and marketing on October 6, 2026. The company is not hiring only model engineers. It is building the functions required to deploy agents into real businesses, manage enterprise relationships, educate customers, and expand accounts.

The presence of deployment managers, forward-deployed roles, strategic account managers, and product specialists is a clue about the category. AI agents do not become operational because someone toggled a feature. They need policies, integrations, evaluation, change management, and people who can translate a brand's messy reality into a system that behaves predictably.

For operators considering Siena's open roles, the opportunity is tied to that complexity. The company says what employees build can reach customer production in the same week. That speed raises the appeal and the stakes. A support reply is not a sandbox demo when a real customer is waiting on the other side.

What Siena Still Has to Prove

Siena's public metrics are substantial, but they are self-reported. The company has not disclosed revenue, retention, valuation, or independent audits of its automation and satisfaction claims. The public record also does not fully reconcile every financing event between the original Seed and today's reported total funding.

The product challenge is just as important. Shared memory can improve continuity, but it can also spread a bad assumption across more workflows. Autonomous resolution saves time only when the policy, context, and action are correct. Customer intelligence becomes useful only when operators can trace an answer back to the conversations that produced it.

Siena therefore has to prove two things at once. It must show that agents can handle more of the customer journey without flattening brand voice or customer judgment. And it must show that the data created by those interactions can make the business smarter, not merely produce a larger dashboard.

That is why Siena is worth watching. The company is building at the point where customer service, commerce, and business intelligence begin to merge. If the Agent of Record works, the support inbox becomes less like a queue of problems and more like a live operating map of the customer.

The $17M round gives Siena more room to test that idea across products, brands, and teams. The next proof will not be a clever response from an AI. It will be whether consumer companies can trust one shared layer to remember the customer, do the work, and tell the rest of the business what the conversation actually meant.
