Presto Brings Voice AI to the Enterprise Drive-Thru

Presto Phoenix is a San Mateo restaurant technology company building enterprise Voice AI for quick-service restaurant drive-thrus. Its core product, Presto Voice, takes orders, connects them to restaurant systems, and helps staff concentrate on food, hospitality, and throughput.

The company is led by co-founder and CEO Krishna Gupta, with an operating team that combines restaurant experience, software engineering, finance, deployment, and enterprise customer work. Presto reported hundreds of live drive-thrus, 12 enterprise brands, and millions of interactions during 2025.

Presto matters now because restaurant Voice AI has crossed the line between a clever demonstration and operating infrastructure. Once an AI system sits between a hungry customer and a kitchen during the lunch rush, voice quality is only the opening act. Menu accuracy, point-of-sale integration, escalation, speed, and trust decide whether the system stays.

About Presto Phoenix

The current Presto Phoenix entity was formed in December 2024 after a consortium led by Remus Capital acquired the Presto Voice platform, technology, and team from Presto Automation through an Article 9 sale. The new private company received $18M in initial equity capital and focused the business on restaurant Voice AI.

That legal reset matters. Presto's product heritage reaches back to a company founded at MIT in 2008, but Presto Phoenix is a newer issuer carrying forward the technology, team, customer knowledge, and restaurant operating history. In January 2026, the company added another $10M in financing led by Metropolitan Partners Group, with Remus Capital, Link Ventures, and strategic angels participating.

Across two Form D offerings, Presto Phoenix has disclosed $28M in equity sold. A valuation and formal round label were not disclosed. The useful signal is less the label than the mandate: fund deployments, deepen the product, and turn restaurant Voice AI into a repeatable enterprise system.

What Presto Voice Actually Does

Presto Voice automates drive-thru order-taking while connecting with a restaurant's point-of-sale platform, confirmation board, speaker, and kitchen workflow. The product supports pure AI, supervised AI, unsupervised AI with escalation, and agent-led modes.

That range is practical, not decorative. A quiet suburban breakfast lane and a packed urban dinner rush do not create the same acoustic, staffing, or menu conditions. An enterprise platform has to adjust without making the restaurant rebuild its operations around the software.

Presto's Menu Unification system addresses one of the least glamorous and most important parts of the job: restaurant menu data. Items, modifiers, dayparts, promotions, prices, and availability vary by brand and location. Centralizing that information can reduce onboarding friction and make updates more consistent across a chain.

The platform also supports multilingual ordering and context-specific upsells. Presto has expanded beyond drive-thru ordering into phone ordering and Presto IQ, a dynamic-data initiative led by Michael Chorey, co-founder and President of Presto IQ. The broader direction is clear: voice is the interface, but structured restaurant data is the operating layer underneath it.

Why Deployment Is the Competitive Test

Drive-thru Voice AI has no private beta. Every missed modifier, awkward handoff, and slow response happens in front of a real customer while a line forms behind them. McDonald's ended an IBM automated ordering test in 2024 after operational complaints, even as the restaurant company said voice ordering still had a future.

That history sharpens the market. Restaurant operators do not need another stage demo. They need reliability across accents, noise, limited-time offers, franchise variations, legacy systems, and the strange improvisation of human ordering.

Presto's production evidence is company-reported, but it is substantial enough to watch. The company said in January 2026 that its system was live in hundreds of drive-thrus for 12 enterprise brands. Its website identifies restaurant relationships including Carl's Jr., Hardee's, Fazoli's, Taco John's, Wienerschnitzel, and Yoshinoya.

Wienerschnitzel expanded its work with Presto after early deployments, and Dairy Queen said in April 2026 that a successful corporate-store pilot would move into select franchisee locations around the country. These rollouts suggest the market is shifting from isolated tests toward multi-location operating decisions.

The Toast Integration Expands Distribution

Presto's September 2026 entry into the Toast Partner Ecosystem may be the company's most important distribution move this year. Shared customers can connect Presto Voice directly to Toast's POS environment so an order captured by the voice system flows into the kitchen.

The integration opens a path beyond the largest national chains. Mid-market and emerging multi-location restaurant brands using Toast can evaluate Voice AI without stitching together every connection themselves.

This is where restaurant AI starts to look less like a feature and more like plumbing. The winning vendor does not merely hear the order. It moves clean data from the speaker to the menu system, the POS, the kitchen, and the staff member who steps in when reality refuses to follow the script.

Leadership Built Around the Last Mile

Presto's leadership team reflects the mix required for that last mile. Krishna Gupta brings 15 years of Voice AI investing and company-building experience. CTO Bill Healey has led Presto software and systems development since 2011. COO and Acting President Kat Hoffman-Flynt brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience.

CFO Lillian Meyer adds finance, M&A, and business-transformation experience. Chief of Staff Kareem Nouraldeen supports cross-functional execution, while General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Susan Shinoff brings technology and AI legal expertise.

The team is not trying to win a generic chatbot market. Presto is making a vertical bet that restaurant context, deployment discipline, and integration depth will matter more than model novelty alone.

Hiring Shows Where Presto Is Investing

Presto's careers page currently lists work across AI engineering, POS and integrations, enterprise deployment, customer success, franchise sales, business analysis, and brand operations. The company describes a globally distributed team with remote work, ownership, and room for creative exploration.

The role mix is more revealing than a hiring slogan. AI engineering improves the model. Backend and POS work connects it to restaurant systems. Forward deployment turns software into a functioning store workflow. Customer success and franchise sales help move from one location to a repeatable network.

For operators and builders, that is the real opportunity inside Presto. The company is hiring around the boundary where machine intelligence meets physical operations, and where a product only earns the word enterprise after it survives dinner.

What Presto Signals for Restaurant AI

Presto's trajectory captures a broader shift in enterprise AI. The model is becoming only one component of the product. Distribution, data structure, integrations, field support, and exception handling create the durable advantage.

The drive-thru is an unusually honest proving ground. There is no patience for a system that works 90% of the way and leaves the crew to untangle the rest. Restaurants need AI that fits the operation, respects the guest, and makes the next order easier rather than more theatrical.

Presto is building for that standard. Its capital, national restaurant rollouts, Toast integration, and hiring plan all point toward the same thesis: Voice AI will become part of restaurant infrastructure, and the companies that win will understand the restaurant as deeply as they understand the model.
