Polygrade Company Spotlight: AI Warranty Claims

A warranty claim creates a trail of decisions long before anyone argues about the final invoice. A homeowner describes the problem. An administrator checks coverage. A technician is dispatched. Parts are sourced. Work is authorized. Documentation moves between systems. Payment waits for the pieces to line up.

Polygrade is building AI agents around that chain. Founded in 2025 by David Steckel, Eui Chung, and Kaustubh Vongole, the company wants warranty administrators to handle routine claims faster while keeping people responsible for exceptions. Its ambition is not to add another chat window. It is to make the operating logic of a claim visible, reusable, and increasingly automated.

That makes Polygrade a useful company to watch. Warranty administration is not a glamorous category, but it is full of consequential handoffs. Every avoidable truck roll, incorrect dispatch, delayed authorization, and lost invoice turns fragmented information into real cost.

ProPay Found a Larger Problem Than Payments

Polygrade began as ProPay, a product aimed at slow contractor payments. The original problem was concrete: service providers finished work, then waited while claim documents and approvals made their way through carrier systems.

The team found that payment delay was often the last visible symptom. The earlier decisions were where the trouble began. A weak diagnosis could send the wrong technician. A missing coverage check could stall authorization. An unavailable part could create another visit. By the time an invoice arrived, the claim had already accumulated friction.

In an October 2026 rebrand essay, Steckel explained that broader discovery. The company moved from fixing one stage to building across the full claim lifecycle. The Polygrade name reflects that expansion from payment workflow to claims operations.

The move also clarifies the company’s thesis. Better payments depend on better upstream decisions, and better upstream decisions require context that can travel across people, vendors, documents, and legacy systems.

AI Agents Meet the Warranty Workflow

Polygrade’s product covers first notice of loss, eligibility, triage, diagnosis, authorization, parts sourcing, contractor coordination, invoice review, payment, and customer communication. The platform is designed to sit above existing claims software instead of requiring a carrier to replace its core system.

Its integration model includes APIs, flat files, email, and browser automation. Polygrade says it supports 124 systems and can connect carriers with suppliers such as Encompass, UED, Sibi, and Marcone. That breadth matters because a warranty claim rarely lives inside one clean database.

The company describes three operating modes. Advisor mode recommends a next step. Copilot mode performs work with approval. Autopilot mode handles bounded workflows while escalating exceptions. The progression gives an administrator a way to test judgment before granting more authority.

That human boundary is central to the product story. A claim may be routine until a coverage ambiguity, unusual diagnosis, expensive repair, or frustrated homeowner makes it anything but routine. Polygrade can only create durable value if automation makes those exceptions clearer instead of burying them.

The Founders Are Building From Operations Out

David Steckel is Polygrade’s founder and CEO. His background includes operating experience in home services, where the distance between a software field and a technician’s day can become painfully obvious.

Eui Chung, co-founder and CTO, brings technical leadership and experience building AI products. Kaustubh Vongole, co-founder and Head of Product, works at the intersection of product, engineering, and applied AI. Together, the founding team is trying to encode an operating process without pretending the process is simple.

That distinction separates useful vertical AI from a generic assistant. Warranty administrators do not need prose about a claim. They need correct coverage checks, defensible authorizations, reliable parts choices, auditable actions, and a clear path to a person when confidence drops.

Polygrade says it has completed SOC 2 Type I and Type II audits and supports role-based controls, encryption, and audit trails. Those safeguards do not settle the trust question, but they show the company understands that operational access and accountability arrive together.

Early Traction Is Measured in Fewer Bad Handoffs

Polygrade names Fidelity National Home Warranty, Cinch Home Services, Elevate, and United as customers. The company reports processing more than 180,000 claims, analyzing $22M in repair spend, and saving the equivalent of five years of human work.

It also reports an 8% reduction in truck rolls, 10x higher adjuster productivity, and a 55% reduction in incorrect technician dispatches. Those figures are company-reported rather than independently benchmarked, so they should be read as evidence of the outcomes Polygrade is targeting, not a universal forecast.

The metrics point to the right unit of value. A warranty carrier does not win because an AI system generates more text. It wins when the right job reaches the right person with the right authorization, parts, and documentation the first time.

The company disclosed $6.3M in aggregate Seed financing in October 2026. Independent reporting says the total combines a $3.3M SAFE raised in early 2025 and a $3M SAFE investment from Construct Capital in July 2026. Construct led the financing, with American Family Ventures, Nine Four Ventures, Hustle Fund, Room, and Pillar participating.

A Small Team With an Integration-Heavy Job

BetaKit reported that Polygrade had seven people when it announced the financing. The company said it planned to add forward-deployed engineering and go-to-market capacity, two functions that reveal the real work ahead.

Forward-deployed engineers bring the product into the messy environment where customer rules, old systems, and edge cases live. Go-to-market hires must explain why a carrier should trust a young company with operational decisions that affect contractors and homeowners. Neither job is solved by a polished demonstration.

No official current careers page or verified live job list was available during this review. The hiring signal is therefore directional, not an assertion about specific openings.

Why Polygrade Matters Now

Vertical AI companies are racing to move from answers to actions. Warranty claims are a demanding test because each action touches money, service quality, customer trust, and a network of independent businesses.

Polygrade’s opportunity is to turn the history of those actions into a compounding advantage. Every resolved claim can improve how the next claim is triaged, authorized, routed, and reviewed. The company calls that an outcomes dataset. The phrase matters only if the data remains accurate, explainable, and useful across different carriers.

The risk is equally clear. Automation can scale a good decision, but it can also scale a weak rule or hide responsibility behind a confident interface. Polygrade will be judged on exception handling, auditability, integration reliability, and customer outcomes as much as speed.

The company started by asking why contractors waited to be paid. It found a system where every stage depended on decisions made somewhere else. Polygrade is now trying to connect those decisions before the claim becomes another expensive lesson in what the software missed.
