Monetary Metals Builds a Marketplace for Productive Gold

Monetary Metals is building a financial marketplace around an asset most people are taught to leave alone. Founded in Scottsdale in 2012 by economist and entrepreneur Keith Weiner, the company connects owners of gold and silver with precious-metals businesses that need metal for inventory, production, or expansion.

The result is a Gold Yield Marketplace where investors can earn interest paid in additional ounces while jewelers, refiners, mints, miners, and other operators receive financing denominated in the metal their businesses already use. Monetary Metals matters now because the company is moving gold from a passive balance-sheet object into a working financing relationship, then building the technology and assurance systems required to repeat that relationship at scale.

About Monetary Metals

Keith Weiner founded Monetary Metals around the belief that gold can function as money and productive capital, not only as an asset held for price appreciation. The company launched its first gold lease in 2016, creating a structure in which an owner supplies metal to a qualified business and receives interest in metal.

That unit of account is central to the model. A jeweler that borrows dollars to buy gold still has to manage what happens when the gold price moves. A gold lease finances the inventory in gold. A mining or precious-metals company can also use a gold-denominated bond to fund production or expansion while matching part of its obligation to the asset it produces or handles.

The Gold Yield Marketplace

Monetary Metals operates between investors seeking yield and businesses seeking specialized financing. Its marketplace originates and structures transactions, performs underwriting, services the financing, and tracks the metal and repayment obligations. Investors can review opportunities and earn interest in gold or silver, while the commercial borrower receives an alternative to conventional bank credit.

The company reports more than 80 funded transactions across five continents and thousands of ounces paid to clients. Its website currently shows a 3.93% weighted average annualized return across active leases and 5.89% across active leases and bonds. Those figures are company-reported snapshots rather than guaranteed returns, and they carry the counterparty and transaction risks disclosed for each opportunity.

Why Asset Assurance Matters

A marketplace promising yield on physical metal has to answer a question software companies can sometimes postpone: where is the asset, and how does anyone know? In July 2026, Monetary Metals acquired TJS USA in a $28.5M all-share transaction to bring more asset-assurance capability in-house.

TJS combines RFID tracking, assaying, audits, and monitoring to provide visibility into precious metals used as business inventory. The acquisition adds a physical verification layer to a marketplace whose credibility depends on connecting digital records, legal ownership, and metal moving through real operations. Monetary Metals also achieved SOC 2 certification in 2024, addressing the controls around the information systems supporting the platform.

Leadership and Operating Depth

Keith Weiner remains founder, CEO, and chairman, carrying the monetary thesis behind the business. The current leadership team adds specialists around the risks that appear once the thesis becomes an operating platform: Jeff Deist serves as chief risk officer, John Flaherty as COO, Nathan Lucas as CFO, Miranda Werstiuk as chief revenue officer, Dickson Buchanan Jr. as chief commercial officer, KC Sparks as CTO, and Gabriel Nasser as chief asset assurance officer.

That mix matters because Monetary Metals is not only selling an investment interface. The company has to evaluate commercial borrowers, monitor physical assets, maintain client records, support regulated securities activity where applicable, and expand across jurisdictions with different gold markets and operating practices.

Growth Across Gold Markets

Monetary Metals opened a Dubai office in 2025, placing the company inside one of the world's most important physical-gold trading hubs. The expansion reflects a market reality larger than any one product: gold ownership, jewelry production, refining, mining, and household saving are global, while the financing systems around them remain fragmented.

Independent growth evidence has followed. Inc. ranks Monetary Metals No. 408 on the 2026 Inc. 5000 and reports 857% three-year growth, improving from No. 677 in 2025. The company also raised $10.5M in equity in September 2026, bringing reported capital raised to nearly $25M and giving the platform more room to develop.

Culture and Hiring as a Signal

The Monetary Metals careers page describes a fully remote company with employees around the world. Its stated values emphasize people, diligence, focus, ambition, integrity, and transparent communication, a set of operating preferences that fits a business where mistakes can be measured in physical ounces.

Hiring here is a market signal rather than a generic growth slogan. A larger marketplace needs financial analysts, relationship managers, engineers, compliance and operations talent, and people who understand how the precious-metals supply chain behaves outside a slide deck. The opportunity is unusual because the work crosses fintech, commodity finance, asset verification, and global commercial relationships.

The Bigger Industry Shift

Monetary Metals is testing whether gold can support a modern credit market without losing the characteristics that make people want to own it. The company has already shown recurring demand on both sides: investors want yield in ounces, and precious-metals businesses want financing aligned with the asset moving through their operations.

Scale will make the model more useful and more demanding at the same time. Every additional transaction adds metal to monitor, a borrower to underwrite, records to reconcile, and client expectations to protect. Monetary Metals' durable advantage will depend on how well its marketplace connects those responsibilities while the business expands across more companies and jurisdictions.
