Gallatin AI Turns Military Logistics Into Decision Software

Gallatin AI builds decision-support software for military logistics. Its flagship platform, Navigator, turns fragmented inventory, consumption, readiness, and transportation data into forecasts and supply plans that logisticians can review and act on.

Founded in 2024, Gallatin AI is led by co-founders Woody Glier, Daniel Buchmueller, and Brian Ballard. The company is headquartered in El Segundo, California, with offices in Washington, D.C. and Austin, Texas. Its market is the machinery behind military operations: fuel, munitions, medical supplies, vehicle readiness, transport capacity, and the thousands of decisions required to keep forces moving.

Gallatin matters now because modern defense has spent heavily on sensors, autonomy, and data infrastructure while sustainment planning still often depends on spreadsheets and manual handoffs. A force can own sophisticated platforms and still lose time, readiness, or options when the supply picture arrives late.

Navigator turns logistics data into decisions

Navigator is designed to help military planners move from reactive reporting to predictive sustainment. Gallatin says the platform can ingest logistics-status reports, tactical messages, embedded-sensor data, inventory feeds, and resupply requests, then normalize those inputs into a common operating picture.

The software forecasts consumption, flags potential shortages, and models courses of action for routes, loads, timing, and resource allocation. After a human decision, Navigator can generate the related supply orders and use execution data to improve the next planning cycle. The point is not to remove the logistician. It is to remove the hours spent reconciling stale numbers before the real judgment can begin.

That distinction is important. Military logistics is not a clean commercial optimization problem with reliable roads, stable demand, and cooperative infrastructure. Routes can disappear. Communications can degrade. Adversaries can target supply lines. The useful system is the one that keeps recalculating after reality edits the spreadsheet.

Field use is becoming the proof layer

Gallatin has moved Navigator beyond a product demonstration. The Defense Innovation Unit confirmed a Joint Sustainment Decision Tool prototype award supporting U.S. Army Europe and Africa. Gallatin says Scale AI is a named teammate on that program, providing course-of-action validation against mission context.

The company also reports an Army PORTAL Direct to Phase II SBIR, an 18-month engagement with III Armored Corps, and deployments with Army and Air Force customers. Navigator supported planning during exercises in Alaska, Japan, and Europe, according to Gallatin. At Yama Sakura 91, the company says the platform helped the 11th Airborne Division forecast critical supplies, track readiness, and compare sustainment risk across operational plans.

One of the more revealing tests connected Navigator to Kodiak AI's autonomous-driving system. In a company-reported field exercise, Navigator detected a resupply need, produced a load and convoy plan, and passed it to Kodiak's vehicles while human operators retained approval authority. Gallatin said the planning sequence took less than 90 seconds. The exercise did not prove fleet-scale deployment, but it showed where the architecture can go: planning software handing an approved mission directly to an execution system.

The founders match the problem

Woody Glier, Gallatin's co-founder and CEO, spent seven years in product and delivery roles at Palantir and later helped build Scale AI's federal team. Gallatin says he was also the first employee at cloud-services company Virtustream. His background sits at the intersection of enterprise software, government deployment, and operational data.

Co-founder and CTO Daniel Buchmueller brings a different path. He started as a Microsoft engineer, co-founded Amazon Prime Air, and later led engineering or cargo-drone work at Volansi, Airbus, Vay, and Vast Space. Gallatin says he is named on more than 75 patents. Co-founder and CPO Brian Ballard spent a decade with the Department of Defense and founded augmented-reality software company Upskill, which TeamViewer acquired.

That mix matters because contested logistics is neither a pure software problem nor a procurement exercise. The product has to model physical constraints, fit military workflows, integrate with existing systems, and earn trust from people whose plans meet weather, terrain, equipment failure, and hostile action.

An ecosystem strategy, not a closed stack

Gallatin is building through partnerships rather than pretending one startup can replace the defense logistics enterprise. Navigator was developed with capabilities on Palantir Foundry and can run within Maven Smart System environments. Gallatin and Booz Allen Hamilton have described a partnership combining the product with Booz Allen's defense logistics expertise. Scale AI participates in the DIU work, while the Kodiak exercise connected planning to autonomous transport.

This approach gives Gallatin an integration advantage and a dependency risk. Connecting to systems the military already uses can shorten deployment. It also means Gallatin must prove that Navigator contributes a distinct decision layer rather than becoming a feature inside a larger platform. The durable value will come from better forecasts, faster planning, and workflows that units keep using after the demonstration team leaves.

Capital is following operational evidence

Gallatin announced a $50 million Series A on October 8, 2026. 8VC and Silent Ventures participated alongside other new and existing investors. The company did not disclose a lead investor or valuation.

Gallatin says the capital will expand engineering, accelerate product development, and broaden its suite of sustainment capabilities across the Joint Logistics Enterprise. The careers page describes a distributed team with an in-person culture across El Segundo, Washington, and Austin. Some roles require eligibility for a U.S. security clearance and travel to customer locations.

The hiring signal is structural. Gallatin is trying to support tactical, operational, and strategic planning across several supply classes and geographies. That requires more than model development. It demands product engineers, deployment teams, domain experts, security work, and the unglamorous integration labor that turns a promising demo into infrastructure.

What to watch next

Gallatin AI has a credible product thesis, founders who understand the deployment environment, verified government work, and enough capital to widen the build. The company is attacking a market where the cost of poor software is measured in readiness rather than clicks.

The next proof should be operational and specific. Watch for repeat deployments that become enduring programs, independently measured improvements in planning time or supply availability, named production-scale integrations, and evidence that Navigator can work across services without turning into a custom implementation every time.

Defense technology loves visible hardware because machines photograph well. Logistics software lives in the quieter part of the stack. Gallatin's bet is that the quiet layer decides whether the impressive machines arrive supplied, repaired, and ready. History has a habit of agreeing.
