Certified LeSS Basics Puts Organizational Design Before Scale

Certified LeSS Basics begins with a problem that appears whenever a company adds more teams to the same product: scale can multiply coordination faster than it multiplies useful output. The two-day online course is designed to put organizational structure, product definition, and team design back into the same conversation before another process layer is added on top.

Gene Gendel will lead four-hour sessions on October 10 and 11. The program covers the foundations of Large-Scale Scrum, the Lean and Scrum principles beneath it, and the organizational choices that determine whether multiple teams can still work as one product group. Basic Scrum knowledge is expected.

Why this room matters now

The pressure to introduce AI into product development makes the operating question more urgent. Faster code generation does not resolve fragmented ownership, conflicting priorities, delayed feedback, or a structure that sends every meaningful decision through another handoff. New tools can accelerate the work already in motion. They can also make a weak system move faster in the wrong direction.

The course is built around the parts of scale that software cannot quietly fix: how teams are organized, how product scope is defined, how work moves through a sprint, and how budgeting and people systems support or obstruct adaptation. LeSS treats those choices as part of product development rather than administrative context.

What the course is built around

  • The principles and structure of Large-Scale Scrum
  • Organizational and team design for adaptive product development
  • Lean thinking, inspection, adaptation, and product focus
  • The relationship between structure, sprints, and product definition
  • HR, budgeting, and other organizational enablers

Who should have it on the radar

The course is relevant to product and engineering leaders, Scrum practitioners, transformation leads, coaches, and executives working across several teams on the same product. It is particularly useful for people who have discovered that adding a scaling framework does not remove the organizational incentives underneath the work.
