Sirona Medical Raises $40M Series D for Radiology Expansion

The executive-team photograph in Sirona Medical's latest funding announcement comes from an office opening in Burlington, Vermont. It is a useful place to begin a story about cloud radiology: a company promising physicians they can work from anywhere is putting more people in place to help them do it.

The San Francisco company announced a $40M Series D on October 15, 2026, led by Avidity Partners, with participation from 8VC, GreatPoint Ventures, KLT Holdings and other new and existing investors. Founder and President Cameron Andrews and CEO Ken Kaufman are expanding a business whose RadOS platform brings diagnostic viewing, reporting, image archiving, worklists and AI into one clinical workflow.

Sirona reports contracts to onboard more than 1,000 additional radiologists over the next 12 months. The financing supports implementation and customer service, commercialization of its Cortex AI orchestration layer, and international expansion. For healthcare software buyers, the round offers a specific view of what scaling an AI platform requires after the contract is signed: people, support and a dependable route into daily clinical work.

A Growing Contract Book Meets the Working Day

Sirona's announcement separates several forms of growth that deserve to stay separate. As of September 30, revenue had increased 2.5x year over year and contracted annual recurring revenue had grown 2.7x. PACS archive usage rose 2.5x, while diagnostic report submissions doubled; the detailed figures give a more useful account than the release headline's broad description of usage tripling.

The company also reports more than 12M annual primary imaging exams under contract across its customer base. That is a measure of contracted activity, and the commitment to onboard another 1,000-plus radiologists describes work ahead. Neither figure should be read as a count of examinations already completed or physicians already using the service.

The commercial implication follows directly from that distinction. Software revenue can begin with a purchasing decision, while a radiologist's experience depends on image availability, familiar reporting, sensible worklists and help when something interrupts the read. Adding support capacity alongside sales capacity is part of delivering the product that the customer bought.

Sirona has appointed Anders Osterholm, a 25-year Sectra veteran, to lead Client Services. New offices in Burlington and Cincinnati will expand U.S.-based implementation and 24x7 support. The physician may see a browser; the practice still needs an organization able to take responsibility for the transition and the service that follows it.

RadOS Connects the Work Around an Image

RadOS is Sirona's shared platform for the principal tools used in a radiology workflow. PACS, short for picture archiving and communication system, handles the imaging archive; the viewer, reporter and worklist address other parts of the physician's day. Combining those applications gives Sirona a way to carry context between activities that can otherwise sit in separate products.

The company's architecture describes normalized clinical data and a unified stream of workflow events. That matters for AI because a useful action may depend on which study is open, what has already been reported and where the case sits in the worklist. A model given that context can be asked to do a more specific job than one receiving an isolated piece of text.

Cortex, Sirona's agentic AI orchestration layer, remains in limited beta with select customers. Sirona describes capabilities including drafting impressions, summarizing prior studies and coordinating specialized AI algorithms. The company says radiologists review and accept material entering the report, preserving a clear clinical role while the software coordinates supporting work.

The Series D supports commercialization of that layer. Its limited-beta status matters to procurement: buyers can distinguish the platform already supporting clinical workflows from capabilities being expanded. Chief Architect Paul Gardner shapes Sirona's technical foundations, while the current product leadership includes Nathan Ayers and engineering is led by Dan Sorrell.

Experience on Both Sides of the Purchase

Cameron Andrews founded Sirona in 2018, and the company spent the following years developing alongside radiology design partners before RadOS's public launch in November 2023. Andrews' background includes work at Lux Capital evaluating businesses in AI and medicine. The founding choice was to develop the software environment around radiologists rather than leave each application to solve the workflow alone.

Ken Kaufman became CEO in January 2025, bringing a career that included McKesson's imaging business and the cloud population-health company PureWellness. His experience connects the practicalities of radiology IT purchasing with the work of operating a healthcare software supplier. Andrews remains Founder and President; historical announcements naming a different CEO describe an earlier period.

Avidity Partners' return as lead investor places that operating history alongside the latest financing. The relevant evidence for customers includes the growing contract book and reported usage, while investors also have to assess the cost of serving that demand. Sirona has not disclosed a valuation or absolute revenue in this announcement.

Sirona says the round funds its operating plan indefinitely, a statement about management's financing expectations. The more concrete commitments are visible in the use of proceeds: client services, AI commercialization and international operations. Those activities give practices specific developments to follow as they evaluate the supplier's expanding responsibilities.

Collaboration Extends the Platform's Reach

Sirona says more than half its customers already collaborate in some way through RadOS, and it plans to refine network tools with private-practice and health-system partners during 2027. That extends the commercial story beyond the efficiency of an individual reader. A common working environment can become useful to organizations coordinating people and activity across locations.

The five-year Everlight Radiology partnership announced in May provides a concrete international relationship. The agreement calls for RadOS deployment across a network involving 800 radiologists and more than 350 hospitals. Those are the partnership's stated scope and planned deployment, rather than evidence that every site has already migrated.

Sirona plans to launch its Sirona Global program before the end of 2026, with markets including the UK, EU, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. International expansion adds another operating dimension to the same service problem: clinicians and customers have to be supported where their work occurs. A shared cloud platform changes how that work can be distributed, while local requirements and implementation still need attention.

For the next practices entering RadOS, the funding becomes tangible through the people who guide the change, the tools available on the first shift and the support that remains afterward. The Burlington office in the announcement is one visible piece of that relationship growing around the screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Sirona expanding client services alongside its cloud platform?

Sirona has contracts to onboard more than 1,000 additional radiologists over 12 months. Its U.S.-based implementation and 24x7 support expansion, including Burlington and Cincinnati offices, supports the work required to bring that contracted capacity into daily use.

How does RadOS connect radiology applications and AI?

RadOS combines diagnostic viewing, reporting, PACS archiving, worklists and AI on a shared cloud-native platform. Sirona describes a normalized data model and workflow event stream that let applications and AI use context from the same clinical workflow.

Is Cortex generally available to every Sirona customer?

Sirona describes Cortex as being in limited beta with select customers. The Series D supports commercialization of its agentic AI orchestration layer, including capabilities such as summarizing prior studies and coordinating specialized AI algorithms; radiologists review material entering the report.

What do the reported growth figures actually measure?

As of September 30, 2026, Sirona reported 2.5x year-over-year revenue growth, 2.7x contracted ARR growth, 2.5x archive usage and 2x report submissions. The more than 12M annual primary imaging exams cited by Sirona are under contract, rather than a claim that this many exams have already been processed.

How does the Everlight agreement relate to Sirona Global?

The May 2026 Everlight agreement calls for a five-year deployment involving 800 radiologists and more than 350 hospitals. Sirona plans to launch its broader Sirona Global program before the end of 2026; the agreement scope should not be read as proof that every site has already migrated.
