Monnai Secures $12M in Funding as Identity and Risk Data Infrastructure Firm in Los Angeles

August 2021. Los Angeles. Two operators who had already seen the clean demos and the dirty plumbing of global fintech decided the real problem was not credit models or prettier dashboards. It was the data underneath everything. Pierre Demarche and Ravish Patel did not start Monnai to chase noise. They started it because roughly 50% of the world still cannot be properly seen by modern financial systems, and everyone keeps pretending that is fine as long as growth charts look good.

Pierre Demarche came out of TeleSign and BICS carrying real operating mileage from product, M&A, and global messaging infrastructure. Ravish Patel spent 15+ years living and working across 40+ countries, watching identity fall apart the moment it crossed borders. Different markets, same result. Fragmented data, slow decisions, bad risk calls dressed up as innovation. Monnai became the counterpunch. One API. 500+ signals. Coverage across 190 countries. Infrastructure first, opinions later.

January 14, 2026 puts a clean marker on the timeline. Monnai closes a $12M Series B led by Motive Partners, with Commerce Ventures and 500 Global returning because momentum like this rarely lies. Fivefold revenue growth in 2025 while operating profitably. Tens of millions of transactions every month. Sub-500ms decision latency. Net revenue retention pushing 200%. These are not vanity metrics. This is what happens when customers expand because the product actually works.

The product itself earns the name. Monnai does not guess who someone might be. It knows, fast. KYC, fraud, credit, collections, delivered through hyperlocal infrastructure that lets companies deploy in days instead of quarters. 5B+ identities accessible. Real-time verification in ~3 seconds. Fraud detection accuracy above 90% without turning onboarding into an interrogation room. Identity without the friction tax.

What stands out is restraint. No growth theater. No spray-and-pray expansion. From 7 markets in early 2023 to active operations across 4 continents today, with teams in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangalore, Singapore, and Jakarta. Tyler Zanini scaling revenue with discipline. Karthik Hegde engineering solutions that survive real-world complexity. Riza Kristanto anchoring Indonesia with local fluency in an $80B+ digital payments market you cannot understand from a spreadsheet.

Motive Partners sees the signal clearly. As Thomas Harris pointed out, AI only gets smarter if the data feeding it stops lying. As software ships faster, clean identity and risk infrastructure become the bottleneck and the leverage point. Monnai is building that layer quietly, profitably, and with the long memory of people who know exactly what breaks first when systems scale. This is not about headlines. It is about finally knowing who is on the other side of the transaction, anywhere in the world, without pretending the problem was ever simple.
