Gatik Raises $200M to Scale Driverless Freight

Gatik's $200M Series D arrives with a job already attached: turn dozens of driverless trucks into a network that can serve major shippers without losing the reliability that won the contracts. The capital is backing expansion of a live freight operation, not another laboratory promise. Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies co-led the August 25, 2026 round; Millennium Management, ARK Invest, Intact Private Capital, and other investors participated, while Gatik left its valuation undisclosed.

The broader implication reaches beyond one financing. Autonomous trucking is moving into the stage where capital follows repeatable operations, customer integration, and service performance, then forces the operator to prove those qualities can survive a much larger fleet.

What Gatik Raised and Who Backed It

The Series D is Gatik's largest financing to date. TechCrunch reported that the California-based company has raised about $500M since emerging from stealth in 2019, although the public record does not expose a fully reconciled round-by-round total. Gatik previously announced a $25M Series A in November 2020 and an $85M Series B in August 2021.

KDT also led that Series B, making its return in the Series D more informative than a new investor appearing for the first time. The firm has watched Gatik move from early fixed routes into driverless commercial work. Intact Private Capital said it tripled its commitment in the new round, while QIA framed the investment as support for next-generation freight infrastructure.

Gatik did not disclose a valuation, and the round should not be used to manufacture one. The more useful question is what the investors are financing: expansion of a company that has narrowed autonomous driving to high-frequency regional freight between distribution centers and stores.

The Middle-Mile Choice Behind Gatik

Gautam Narang, Arjun Narang, and Apeksha Kumavat founded Gatik in 2017. Gautam Narang is CEO, Arjun Narang is CTO, and Apeksha Kumavat is Chief Engineer. Their operating choice was to avoid solving every form of autonomous transportation at once and concentrate on medium-duty commercial trucks moving predictable freight through repeatable regional networks.

That focus separates Gatik from robotaxi systems, last-mile delivery vehicles, and autonomous long-haul trucks built primarily around highway miles. Gatik's trucks travel on highways and surface streets, but the business is organized around routes that connect customer facilities. The customer can judge the service through familiar logistics measures such as on-time delivery, capacity, route flexibility, and whether stores receive product as planned.

The company calls its autonomous system Gatik Driver. It is designed to adjust to changing stops, distribution-center activity, and pickup or drop-off requirements across commercial networks. Isuzu supplies a production-ready vehicle platform, while NVIDIA provides DRIVE AGX compute for Gatik's next generation of Class 6 and 7 driverless trucks.

Commercial Evidence, With the Labels Left On

Gatik reports more than $600M in contracted revenue, 85,000 fully driverless orders completed, and 99% on-time delivery across its operations. These figures come from the company and are not presented as audited financial results, but they measure something more useful than the number of demonstrations completed. They describe contracted demand and the repeated service obligations that a freight operator has to meet.

Independent reporting adds detail to that picture. TechCrunch reported that Gatik operates dozens of fully driverless commercial trucks, employs about 350 people, and runs a 41-truck deployment for PepsiCo across Dallas, Phoenix, and Northwest Arkansas. Gatik's public customer history also includes Walmart, Loblaw, Kroger, and Tyson Foods.

The PepsiCo relationship matters because it puts autonomous freight inside a large food-and-beverage network where delays become an operating problem, not a failed experiment. Gatik says its routes have grown from fixed trips under 10 miles to dynamic networks covering up to 400 miles with many pickup and drop-off locations.

What the $200M Is Expected to Change

Gatik plans to use the Series D to add trucks, customers, and cities while hiring engineers and operations staff. Management says dozens of driverless trucks operate today and that the company intends to expand toward thousands over time. That is a company target, not a guaranteed fleet count or timetable.

Scaling introduces a different class of work. A larger autonomous fleet needs vehicles, compute, maintenance, remote operations, safety assurance, customer integration, regulatory coordination, and people who can keep the service working across markets. Gatik's technology may drive the truck, but commercial reliability belongs to the whole operating system around it.

The round therefore finances more than vehicle production. It finances the attempt to reproduce Gatik's current performance across more routes without weakening the safety case or service levels that made customers willing to sign contracts. Capital can speed deployment, but it also increases the number of places where the model has to work on an ordinary morning.

What This Series D Signals for Autonomous Freight

Autonomous trucking has spent years being evaluated through technical milestones: miles driven, safety drivers removed, and increasingly capable perception and planning systems. Those milestones remain necessary, but commercial buyers ultimately purchase freight movement. They care about service consistency, cost, capacity, integration, and how quickly a problem is resolved when the network does not behave as planned.

Gatik's middle-mile strategy gives the company a constrained environment in which to prove those economics. The routes are not simple, but they are tied to recurring facility relationships and measurable customer needs. That can make deployment more legible than a broad autonomy thesis while still requiring the trucks to handle public roads, variable traffic, and live logistics operations.

The $200M round is evidence that large financial institutions see value in that transition from possibility to repetition. The next evidence will come from operations. Gatik has to show that the discipline behind dozens of driverless trucks can survive thousands, and that a larger network can keep making autonomous freight feel less like a technology event and more like dependable infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Gatik do?

Gatik operates autonomous medium-duty trucks on regional freight routes between distribution centers and stores. Its middle-mile model focuses on repeatable commercial networks rather than robotaxis, last-mile delivery, or long-haul trucking.

Who led Gatik's $200M Series D?

Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies co-led the August 25, 2026 Series D. Millennium Management, ARK Invest, Intact Private Capital, and other undisclosed investors also participated.

What commercial evidence did Gatik report with the financing?

Gatik reported more than $600M in contracted revenue, 85,000 fully driverless orders completed, and 99% on-time delivery. These are company-reported operating metrics rather than audited financial results.

How will Gatik use the Series D funding?

Gatik plans to add trucks, customers, cities, engineers, and operations staff. Management says it intends to expand from dozens of driverless trucks toward thousands over time, but it did not provide a guaranteed timetable.
