Dili Raises $15M Series A for Built-World Compliance AI

Dili, a New York company building AI-powered compliance software for the built world, has raised a $15M Series A. The company lists Khosla Ventures, Allianz, Y Combinator, and Brick and Mortar Ventures among its backers, although publicly available company materials do not identify the lead investor or the round-specific syndicate.

The financing arrives as Dili moves deeper into one of technology's least glamorous and most expensive operating problems: keeping federally funded energy, infrastructure, construction, data-center, and advanced-manufacturing projects compliant with prevailing-wage, apprenticeship, payroll, and audit requirements. The broader implication is straightforward. Vertical AI is moving beyond document assistance and into the operational controls that protect project economics.

What Happened

Dili's official company timeline lists a $15M Series A following a $3.6M Seed round. The company does not publicly disclose an announcement date, valuation, use of proceeds, or the lead investor, so those details should remain open rather than being inferred from investor logos or fundraising timelines.

Current leadership includes CEO Anand Chaturvedi and CTO Brian Fernandez. Dili began with a different product. Stephanie Song, Brian Fernandez, and Anand Chaturvedi initially built AI-assisted diligence tools after encountering the manual work embedded in investment analysis. A 2024 coverage documented that origin, while Dili's current materials show the company now focused on compliance automation for physical industries.

That shift is more than cosmetic. Investment diligence and project compliance both involve fragmented source documents, meaningful financial consequences, and professionals who need evidence behind every answer. Dili has carried that core problem into a market where a missed wage rule, apprenticeship requirement, or payroll discrepancy can jeopardize funding, tax credits, and project delivery schedules.

What Dili Actually Builds

Dili's current platform reviews certified payroll, matches wage determinations, tracks apprenticeship requirements, flags exceptions, and generates audit-ready records. The company says it can ingest PDF, Excel, and CSV payroll files, connect with government and payroll data sources, and provide project owners, EPCs, contractors, compliance teams, and investors with a shared view of compliance risk.

The important distinction is how Dili defines the boundary between AI and calculation. AI is used to read inconsistent documents, classify records, and direct attention, while deterministic logic and compliance specialists protect the calculations that determine whether a record passes. That is a more disciplined design philosophy than treating a language model as an all-purpose compliance engine with a polished interface.

Dili also reports that its platform is SOC 2 compliant and supports workflows across all 50 states. Those capabilities matter because labor rules are not a single national checklist. The software must connect the project, worker, trade, wage determination, subcontractor, supporting documentation, and applicable requirements without breaking the audit trail between them.

Why This Matters

Dili says it now supports more than 700 projects and more than 70 leading U.S. EPCs and developers. The company reports tracking 4.7M labor hours, processing 13,837 payroll reports, analyzing 522,992 time entries, covering 17,948 workers, and helping customers protect more than $1B in funding. These are company-reported figures, but they indicate the platform is operating against active project records rather than waiting for a hypothetical enterprise deployment.

The value proposition extends well beyond faster paperwork. Federally supported projects often tie their economics to compliance with prevailing-wage and apprenticeship requirements, meaning the back office can directly influence whether a project preserves expected funding and tax incentives. A system that identifies missing records, underpayments, classification errors, or apprenticeship-ratio issues before an audit can significantly reduce the cost of remediation.

Dili reports reducing payroll-review time from more than seven hours to less than five minutes per project each week. Even if buyers discount a vendor-reported performance claim, the broader direction is difficult to ignore. Compliance teams should not spend their highest-value hours manually comparing repetitive payroll records when software can surface exceptions and preserve supporting evidence for human review.

The Investor Logic

Dili's investor base aligns closely with the problem the company is solving. Khosla Ventures has a long history of backing ambitious technical platforms. Allianz understands regulated operations and risk. Y Combinator supported Dili at its formation, while Brick and Mortar Ventures specializes in technology for architecture, engineering, construction, and facilities management.

The market thesis does not require every construction company to become an AI laboratory. It requires owners and contractors to recognize that compliance data has become part of the economic infrastructure of a project. As clean-energy, data-center, advanced-manufacturing, and public-infrastructure investment continues to expand, so does the volume of payroll records, subcontractors, worker classifications, and documentation requirements.

That is where vertical software becomes difficult to replace. A general-purpose AI assistant can summarize a regulation. An operating platform that understands the project, connects the evidence, applies the relevant requirements, records exceptions, and supports remediation becomes part of how the work itself gets done.

What the Series A Signals

Dili's Series A is a useful test of the next phase of vertical AI. The first generation demonstrated that models could read and generate business documents. The harder challenge is building systems that withstand operational scrutiny, respect deterministic controls, and leave human reviewers with enough evidence to trust, verify, and correct the results.

For founders, the lesson is to understand the operational details before promising automation. For operators, it is to evaluate AI products by the quality of their controls, audit trails, and escalation paths rather than the fluency of a demonstration. For investors, Dili represents a bet that regulated physical industries will adopt AI through narrow, accountable workflows long before they hand broad operational authority to autonomous systems.

The $15M Series A gives Dili a larger platform from which to pursue that strategy, but the more meaningful proof will come from customer deployments. If the company continues turning fragmented payroll and compliance work into reliable, reviewable project intelligence, AI may become less of a construction talking point and more of the quiet operating system that keeps capital moving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Dili's software do?

Dili automates compliance workflows for federally funded energy, infrastructure, construction, data-center, and advanced-manufacturing projects. Its platform reviews certified payroll, matches wage determinations, tracks apprenticeship requirements, flags exceptions, and preserves audit evidence.

Why does the $15M Series A matter for the construction technology market?

The round reflects investor interest in vertical AI that operates inside accountable, regulated workflows rather than stopping at document generation. Dili is applying AI to compliance work that can affect project funding, tax credits, backpay, audits, and delivery schedules.

How does Dili separate AI from high-stakes calculations?

Dili's product materials say AI handles messy documents and classification while auditable logic and compliance specialists protect the calculations that determine outcomes. That boundary gives operators a source trail and a clear point for human review.

Who currently leads Dili?

Dili's current official materials identify Anand Chaturvedi as CEO and co-founder and Brian Fernandez as CTO and co-founder.

What scale does Dili report today?

Dili says it serves more than 700 projects and more than 70 leading U.S. EPCs and developers. The company also reports tracking 4.7M labor hours and helping customers protect more than $1B in funding.
