Candid Health Raises $120M Series D to Rebuild Medical Billing

Candid Health has raised a $120M Series D led by Sixth Street Growth, with Oak HC/FT, 8VC, and Y Combinator participating as existing investors. Announced on July 22, 2026, the financing triples the healthcare software company's valuation from its February 2025 Series C, although Candid Health did not disclose the new valuation.

The San Francisco-based company is building an AI-first revenue cycle management platform for healthcare providers. Its software brings clinical, billing, and provider data into a unified model, applies configurable payer rules, and uses AI agents to automate repetitive work across eligibility verification, claim submission, payment posting, and denial management.

The round matters because medical billing is not a peripheral function in healthcare. It is the financial infrastructure that determines whether providers collect what they are owed, how much administrative work separates care from payment, and how much complexity ultimately falls on staff and patients.

What Happened

Sixth Street Growth says Candid Health grew annual contracted run-rate revenue by 190% year over year and achieved 180% net dollar retention in 2025. The company also reports serving more than 200 healthcare organizations across dozens of medical specialties, with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Denver.

The Series D follows a $52.5M Series C led by Oak HC/FT in February 2025 and a $29M Series B led by 8VC in September 2024. Candid Health said its Series C brought total capital raised to $99.5M, meaning the latest financing increases disclosed funding to more than $219M. The valuation and detailed allocation of proceeds remain undisclosed.

Returning participation from Oak HC/FT, 8VC, and Y Combinator provides continuity across Candid Health's financing history. Sixth Street Growth supplies the later-stage capital and says it interviewed nearly 40 customers during its diligence process. That approach is less glamorous than watching an AI product demonstration, which is precisely why it matters.

Why This Matters

Revenue cycle management (RCM) encompasses the processes healthcare providers use to convert patient care into reimbursement. Every insurer has its own rules, documentation requirements, coding standards, and exception pathways. When a claim fails, providers must investigate, correct, resubmit, and wait while billing teams spend more time navigating administrative systems than resolving the underlying issue.

Candid Health's thesis is that this is fundamentally a data integration and workflow problem. Rather than positioning itself as an AI assistant layered on top of legacy billing systems, the company presents its platform as the system of record, combining a unified data model, configurable rules engine, and AI agents that execute work throughout the revenue cycle.

That distinction separates meaningful vertical AI from expensive demonstrations. A model can generate polished responses while leaving organizations with the same work queues, exceptions, and manual reconciliation. Candid Health is trying to reduce the work itself, shifting the conversation from AI capabilities to operating economics.

From Palantir to the Claims Queue

Candid Health was founded in 2019 by Nick Perry, Doug Proctor, and Adam Reis. Nick Perry serves as CEO and Doug Proctor serves as COO. The company has not publicly identified a current CTO, so assigning that title would go beyond the available record.

Perry and Proctor met at Palantir, where Perry focused on healthcare and Proctor built systems for defense and intelligence. The connection is more than founder biography. One of Palantir's defining ideas was that complex institutions often scatter critical data across disconnected systems, teams, and workflows, creating value for software capable of assembling a coherent operational picture.

Medical billing presents that same challenge in a uniquely American setting. A missing code or incomplete field can delay reimbursement, while the solution often depends on payer-specific knowledge embedded in software workflows and institutional experience. Candid Health's platform turns those rules and remaining manual processes into configurable software.

Product and Customer Evidence

Candid Health's automation platform is designed to reduce errors before claims are submitted while automating recurring RCM tasks after submission. The company also provides an integration platform, real-time reporting, and workflows covering eligibility, payment posting, and denial management. In May 2025, Candid Health announced completion of a Type II SOC 2 examination for its RCM platform.

Customer outcomes provide a more practical measure. Talkiatry reduced manual billing work by 40% while achieving a 98.3% net collection rate, and that Nourish automatically processes 96.7% of claims while expanding without adding billing staff. Those results come from the company and its customers rather than independent benchmarking, but they illustrate the types of operational improvements the platform aims to deliver.

The reported 180% net dollar retention provides another meaningful signal. It suggests existing customers significantly expanded their spending during 2025, often a stronger indicator of product value than customer count alone. Healthcare organizations may publicly endorse pilot programs while quietly discontinuing them later. Expanding usage across live deployments is considerably more difficult to manufacture.

Market Context

The Series D announcement cites approximately $280B spent annually on U.S. healthcare revenue cycle management. That figure reflects a vast administrative infrastructure spanning software, services, consultants, internal billing teams, and outsourced operations. It should not be interpreted as a single addressable revenue pool.

It does explain investor interest. Healthcare billing is expensive, fragmented, and directly connected to provider cash flow. A platform that lowers collection costs while improving reimbursement is not selling abstract productivity. It is selling a measurable financial outcome to organizations already spending heavily on the existing system.

The competitive challenge remains substantial. Large healthcare providers operate complex legacy systems, intricate integrations, regulatory obligations, and limited tolerance for software that creates additional reconciliation work. Candid Health must continue proving that automation reduces operational burden without sacrificing control, auditability, or trust.

What This Signals

Candid Health's Series D reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI investment. Capital is increasingly flowing toward vertical platforms that own context, workflows, and measurable outcomes rather than generic tools that generate answers while leaving execution to customers. The valuable layer is increasingly the one connected directly to operational data and accountable for what happens next.

Healthcare revenue cycle management provides a particularly demanding test of that thesis because errors carry both financial and patient consequences. Candid Health's growth suggests providers are increasingly willing to trust core billing operations to a modern software platform. The next phase, however, will require more than impressive growth metrics. Success at enterprise scale depends on reliable automation, transparent exception handling, durable integrations, and customer outcomes that remain consistent as deployments expand.

That is what the $120M financing is ultimately supporting. The capital gives Candid Health additional runway to pursue autonomous revenue cycle management, while the reported 190% growth, 180% net dollar retention, and continued investor support raise expectations for what comes next. The company has moved beyond demonstrating that medical billing is inefficient. It now has to prove that its replacement can become infrastructure.
