Boomi Acquires Lunar.dev for Enterprise AI Governance

Boomi has completed its acquisition of Lunar.dev, adding an AI and Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway to its broader integration, API management, data management, and agent management platform. Boomi first announced a letter of intent on May 13, 2026, and confirmed the completed acquisition on July 27.

The purchase price and transaction structure were not disclosed. The strategic logic is easier to see. Lunar.dev gives Boomi a control layer for traffic moving among AI agents, models, tools, APIs, and enterprise systems. That matters because the enterprise AI market is shifting from model experimentation toward a more difficult operational question: who can let an agent interact with production systems without losing control of identity, access, cost, security, and auditability?

What Boomi Acquired

Lunar.dev built an enterprise AI and MCP gateway designed to sit between employees and agents and the resources those agents access. The platform emphasizes policy enforcement, identity-aware access, real-time audit trails, model routing, rate limiting, cost and token monitoring, prompt injection defenses, and deployment within a customer's own infrastructure. The gateway is not another model, nor is it another agent builder. It is the control point that governs how those systems reach enterprise tools and data.

That position makes Lunar.dev a natural fit for Boomi Connect, Boomi's managed MCP connector service. Boomi says Connect provides more than 1,000 managed, MCP-enabled tools for enterprise applications including Salesforce, SAP, Workday, and ServiceNow. Lunar.dev adds governance over who can use those connections, which actions are permitted, what each interaction costs, and how activity is recorded for security and compliance teams.

Why This Matters for Boomi Customers

Enterprise AI has a simple sales story but a complex operating model. Giving an agent access to customer records, payroll systems, support queues, or procurement workflows can make it genuinely useful, but every new connection also expands the environment IT and security teams must govern. Connectivity without identity, least-privilege access, policy enforcement, and audit logs is not transformation. It is permission sprawl with a more polished interface.

Boomi is attempting to solve both sides of that equation within a single platform. Its integration technology already connects applications and data, while its API management and agent management capabilities provide orchestration and control. By placing Lunar.dev's gateway into that architecture, Boomi can offer customers a centralized way to govern agent-to-tool interactions while preserving flexibility across model providers such as Claude, Copilot, and Gemini.

That vendor-agnostic approach is strategically valuable because model leadership changes quickly. Enterprises may choose different models for coding, analysis, customer service, or regulated workloads, but they do not want to rebuild access controls and audit frameworks every time a model changes. A durable governance layer allows model choice to remain flexible while identity, policy, cost controls, and observability stay consistent.

The Companies Behind the Deal

Boomi reports more than 30,000 customers and over 800 partners, including more than one-quarter of the Fortune 500. The platform spans integration and automation, data management, API management, and AI agent management. The company has also expanded through acquisitions, including data integration provider Rivery and managed file transfer provider Thru.

Lunar.dev launched in 2022 with a focus on managing third-party API consumption before expanding into AI and MCP governance. Eyal Solomon and Roy Gabbay founded the company and serve as CEO and CTO, respectively. Lunar.dev announced a $6M seed round in November 2023, led by Uncork Capital with participation from Angular Ventures. Its website also lists DarkMode Ventures, Irregular Expressions VC, OperAngels, and several angel investors among its backers.

Boomi Chairman and CEO Steve Lucas framed the original acquisition around giving customers greater control over every interaction among AI, data, and enterprise applications. The completion announcement makes the product destination more concrete: Lunar.dev is expected to become an integral part of the Boomi Enterprise Platform and a core component of Boomi Connect.

AI Governance Is Becoming Integration Infrastructure

The acquisition reflects a broader convergence of software categories. API management, MCP connectivity, identity, observability, cost management, model routing, data loss prevention, and agent governance are increasingly becoming parts of the same operating layer rather than separate products. The winners may not be the companies with the most impressive agent demonstrations. They may be the ones that make production AI predictable enough for security teams to trust.

Lunar.dev gives Boomi a focused governance gateway at a moment when MCP adoption is exposing more enterprise tools to AI systems. Boomi gives Lunar.dev broader distribution, an established integration footprint, and a platform that already connects many of the systems those agents need. Together, they combine capability with governance, which is often the difference between an impressive proof of concept and infrastructure that withstands production and audit requirements.

What Remains Undisclosed

The companies have not publicly disclosed the purchase price, form of consideration, exact legal closing date, regulatory treatment, or employee count at the time of the acquisition. They also have not detailed how Lunar.dev's pricing, contracts, support, branding, or standalone product plans may change. Those unanswered questions matter to customers evaluating the transition and should not be filled with assumptions.

The next proof point will be execution. Boomi has explained why it acquired Lunar.dev and where the technology fits within its platform, but customers will ultimately judge the acquisition by how quickly the gateway becomes part of real production workflows, how clearly policies can be administered, and whether governance feels like an invisible foundation rather than another management console demanding attention. In enterprise AI, control only proves its value when it helps organizations move faster without asking security teams to compromise.
