BoomerangHR Raises $12.7M for Employee Alumni AI
Companies spend years learning how an employee performs, collaborates, recovers from mistakes, and navigates the business. When that person leaves, much of the useful record usually collapses into an exit form, a disabled email address, and somebody's memory.
BoomerangHR has raised a $12.7M seed round around the value employers lose in that handoff. Kalos Ventures and Album Ventures co-led the financing, with Monta Vista Capital, Capital Eleven, and Strada Education Foundation participating. The company announced the round on September 14, 2026, as it emerged from stealth with software for offboarding and corporate alumni management.
The broader bet is that former employees are becoming a more important source of trusted talent while the external hiring funnel becomes easier to flood and harder to verify. BoomerangHR wants to turn an employer's alumni history into a working system for rehires, referrals, and commercial relationships instead of leaving those connections to chance.
What BoomerangHR Announced
The $12.7M seed round is co-led by Kalos Ventures and Album Ventures. The company-issued announcement also names Monta Vista Capital, Capital Eleven, and Strada Education Foundation as participants.
An independent HR Brew report additionally names Atlanta Seed. Because that firm does not appear in the official release, DevCuration is using the primary-source investor list and treating the additional name as unresolved. The company did not disclose a valuation, prior financing amounts, or a detailed allocation of proceeds.
BoomerangHR is based in New York and was founded in 2023. Its current leadership page names Jeff Wald as founder and CEO, Kanish Raajkumar as co-founder and CTO, Andrei Tulai as co-founder and VP of Engineering, and Mallory Meiser as co-founder and COO.
Jeff Wald previously co-founded WorkMarket, a platform for managing contingent workers that ADP acquired in January 2018. That history gives BoomerangHR relevant workforce-software experience, but it does not guarantee that employers will adopt a new alumni-management category. The company still has to prove that offboarding data can become a recurring operating asset rather than another HR database that grows quietly out of date.
How the Platform Works
BoomerangHR connects to the systems employers already use. Employee records flow from an HCM or HRIS, open roles flow from an applicant tracking system, and the platform maintains one alumni profile for each former employee. The company lists integrations with Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM and Taleo, UKG, ADP, Dayforce, BambooHR, Rippling, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters, and Ashby.
Employers can set rules around rehire eligibility, seniority, location, pay, and time since departure before the software contacts anyone. The platform can then rank alumni against open roles, keep profiles current with internal and public career data, and route qualified matches into an employer's recruiting workflow.
The offboarding module, which the company labels as beta, is designed to begin when the HR system records a departure. It gives former employees a place to access documents and answer exit questions, then carries those responses into the alumni profile. BoomerangHR also describes reporting for rehires, referrals, talent movement, and warm sales or partnership paths when a former employee joins another organization.
The company says implementation can take less than an hour and identifies itself as SOC 2 Type II compliant, GDPR and CCPA ready, and a processor under the customer's data-processing agreement. Those are company assertions. DevCuration did not inspect the underlying audit report or integration certifications.
Why Alumni Data Matters Now
The labor-market evidence is stronger than the usual nostalgia around bringing back a former colleague. ADP Research found that returning employees averaged 31% of new hires in its payroll data and represented 35% of new hires in March 2025. In the information sector, nearly two-thirds of new hires that month were returning employees.
At the same time, application volume is becoming a weaker proxy for candidate quality. Gartner predicted that one in four candidate profiles worldwide will be fake by 2028. A former employee is not automatically the right hire, but the employer begins with a richer evidence set: observed performance, known relationships, previous role context, and a shared operating history.
That changes the value of offboarding. The exit process is usually designed to close access, collect equipment, settle benefits, and document the departure. BoomerangHR is trying to preserve the useful option that remains after those obligations are complete.
The Customer and Investor Case
BoomerangHR says hundreds of companies use its platform across millions of alumni profiles. Ashley Bittner, managing partner at Kalos Ventures, supplied those deployment figures in the announcement, so they should be understood as company and investor reporting rather than independently audited traction.
Warby Parker is the clearest named customer evidence in the public record. Chelsea Kaden, the retailer's chief people officer, said the platform helps Warby Parker remain connected with former employees who may later return, refer someone, or stay connected to the company. The official site also includes advisers and former HR leaders from companies such as ADP, Chipotle, General Motors, Anthem, and Burger King discussing the offboarding and alumni-management problem.
Kalos Ventures' participation fits its stated focus on workforce, care, and education businesses shaped by AI, automation, robotics, and demographic change. Album Ventures adds an early-stage technology investor, while Monta Vista Capital, Capital Eleven, and Strada bring additional venture and workforce-development perspectives.
What the Round Has to Prove
The software can organize a relationship, but it cannot create one retroactively. A polished alumni portal will not fix an exit handled with indifference, a manager who burned the bridge, or a company that treated the final week as a threat-containment exercise. Employers still have to decide which relationships deserve to remain open and what a respectful departure actually looks like.
BoomerangHR also has to prove that its profiles stay accurate, its matching improves recruiting work, and its outreach earns responses without becoming another automated campaign. The company has described broad deployment, but it has not published audited rehire rates, customer savings, retention results, revenue, or unit economics.
That is where the $12.7M round becomes more than a funding headline. It gives the team room to turn a familiar HR idea into repeatable infrastructure and gives customers a reason to measure what happens after an employee leaves. The next valuable hire, referral, or introduction may already understand the business; BoomerangHR is building the system that keeps that possibility visible.
