Array Labs Raises $21M for Space-Based Radar Expansion

Array Labs has raised a $21M oversubscribed strategic investment round anchored by Mitsubishi Electric, with continued participation from Catapult Ventures, Kompas VC, and Y Combinator. Mitsubishi Electric separately disclosed a $10M investment on July 24, 2026, while Array Labs announced the full round on July 27.

The financing matters because it comes with a route to market. Array Labs and Mitsubishi Electric will develop and commercialize satellite-based aircraft and maritime tracking services for defense and security customers across Asia-Pacific, pairing Array's distributed radar technology with Mitsubishi's satellite engineering, manufacturing infrastructure, and regional defense relationships.

This is the part of a strategic round that truly deserves the word strategic. Capital can fund engineering, hiring, and production capacity, but the right partner can also shorten the distance between a working system and a government customer that requires technical integration, trusted relationships, and a credible path to deployment.

What Happened

The $21M financing follows a $20M Series A announced in January 2026. That earlier round was led by Catapult Ventures and brought the company's disclosed funding since Y Combinator to $35M, following a $5M seed round in 2022 and a $10M financing in 2024.

The latest financing is not described as another Series A or an extension. Array Labs calls it an oversubscribed strategic investment round anchored by Mitsubishi Electric, with continued participation from Catapult Ventures, Kompas VC, and Y Combinator. No valuation was disclosed, and the allocation of the remaining capital beyond Mitsubishi Electric's $10M investment was not detailed.

Array Labs is a Silicon Valley-based defense and space company founded in 2019. Andrew Peterson serves as CEO, and Isaac Robledo serves as COO. The company develops radar payloads, integrated satellite systems, and data products built around formation-flying multistatic radar.

Why Mitsubishi Electric Changes the Equation

Mitsubishi Electric is more than a recognizable name on the cap table. The company develops satellite platforms, communications systems, radar equipment, and defense technologies, and it has established relationships with government and security customers across Japan and the broader region.

That infrastructure complements Array Labs' approach. The company is working to make high-power radar systems more modular and manufacturable while coordinating multiple satellites to operate as a single distributed sensor. Mitsubishi Electric contributes experience in satellite development, manufacturing, systems integration, and regional commercialization.

The partnership focuses on aircraft and maritime information services. Mitsubishi Electric specifically links the collaboration to security applications and space-based Airborne Moving Target Indication (AMTI), a capability designed to detect and track moving objects across broad areas from orbit.

From Static Images to Persistent Awareness

Traditional Earth observation systems excel at capturing what a location looked like at a specific moment. The greater challenge is understanding movement over time, particularly across oceans, contested airspace, remote borders, and regions where ground-based radar is limited by terrain and the horizon.

Array Labs is building radar satellites designed to operate in coordinated clusters. Each satellite observes from a different position, and the combined system supports 2D imaging, 3D terrain mapping, moving-target detection, and other forms of situational awareness. Because the technology relies on radar rather than optical sensors, it can also operate through clouds and darkness.

The company has organized its business around three product lines: radar payloads for other satellite manufacturers, sovereign satellite systems for customers seeking dedicated assets, and data products generated by Array Labs' own constellation. That approach allows the company to commercialize hardware and integrated systems before its full data constellation is operational.

Government Demand Is Pulling the Technology Forward

Array Labs has announced research and development work with DARPA, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, and other national security organizations. Those programs span distributed radar architecture, high-power antennas, communications, 3D reconstruction, and space-based moving-target concepts.

The company also reported nine digits in contracted commercial bookings in its January Series A announcement. That figure is company-reported rather than independently verified, but it supports a broader point: demand is emerging across both government and commercial markets for faster, more persistent geospatial intelligence.

The new financing provides additional flexibility to expand the team, pursue more radar and satellite bus applications, and grow its presence in the Indo-Pacific region. Independent reporting has also indicated the company had approximately 50 employees and planned to grow to about 70 by the end of 2026.

What This Signals

Space-based sensing is evolving from periodic observation toward persistent awareness. Customers are no longer satisfied with receiving a higher-quality image after important activity has already occurred. Defense, infrastructure, disaster response, and autonomous systems increasingly require data that captures movement, change, and context with minimal delay.

Array Labs still faces substantial execution challenges, including flight qualification, manufacturing scale, constellation deployment, and service integration. Planned satellite launches remain future milestones rather than completed proof points. The Mitsubishi Electric partnership does not eliminate those risks, but it provides Array Labs with a partner that brings relevant hardware expertise and a commercial incentive to help transform the technology into an operational service.

That is the business lesson behind the financing. The strongest strategic investors do more than extend a company's runway. They contribute distribution, customer access, manufacturing expertise, regulatory familiarity, or systems integration capabilities that would otherwise take years for a startup to build independently.

The Bigger Industry Shift

The $21M financing is another indication that defense and space investors are rewarding companies capable of connecting advanced hardware with deployable missions. Array Labs is not presenting radar as a science project or simply a better mapping tool. It is positioning distributed sensing as infrastructure for understanding terrain, infrastructure, aircraft, ships, and activity at global scale.

For Array Labs, the next test is operational. If the company can translate its radar architecture and U.S. government program work into reliable services alongside Mitsubishi Electric across Asia-Pacific, this round will look less like another defense technology financing and more like the beginning of a cross-border commercialization platform.
